New to tyranids attempt at 2000pt

Im completely new to warhammer 40k and was hopping to get some advice on the army list i made to find out if it sucks or not before i spend a ton of money on it. Im trying to make a well rounded and mobile army with some of the models i like such as the carnefex and lictors while still having it be somewhat competitive. Any feedback or criticism on my army list would be greatly appreciated.

The best advice I can give you is to build your army list around a theme. Choose a theme, like close combat, monsterous creatures, ranged combat, deepstriking, or whatever you like. Choose your units to fit your theme and at the same time, consider how to deal with critical obstacles like anti-armor, anti-swarm, holding objectives,etc... Many times your army lists will require fine tuning to develop a list that you are satisfied with and that will require playing a lot of games and seeing how it runs. Currently your list seems very generalized, a jack of all trades, master of none. It is not a very competitive list because it lacks focus. Hope that helps.

I have to agree about shrikes with deathspitters. Now, shrikes with boneswords and scything talons are another matter - especially against stuff like Ravenwing and other mobile, hard-to-kill armies.

well ive decided to try a deep strike theme for my tyranids.

    Hq
Hive tyrant – lash whip, bonesword, hive commander, paroxysm, leech essence, venom cannon wings – 280pts
    Elites
    2 lictor 130
    2x2 zoanthorps micetic spore 320
    Troops
    2x 3 warriors with 2 deathspitters and 1 barbed strangler 220
    2x 20 hormagaunts with toxin sacks 320
    2x 20 termagaunts 200
    heavy support
    2x trygon prime regeneration 530

basic idea is hormagaunts come in near objectives through trygon prime tunnels while termagaunts and warriors defend objectives near my end. The lictors and hive tyrant will be used to boost my reserves rolls and zoanthorps to pop tanks and other armour. Im not sure that this list has enough anti infantry or tank tho.

Realistically you onky need one prime for the synapse, and if you want deepstriking I would drop one trygon for another tyrant, give everything a way to deepstrike as well.
    Siggy.

    Good luck with the lictors!.

I dont think I would take them in this list, for the same amount of points you could put in a DoM in a spore and accomplish in one turn what the two lictors couldn't in three. Just my opinion but if you want to run lictors use them in squads no less then three because if your serious about taking up the elite slot with them you don't want them dying off the turn they come in.

True, however Shadow in the warp is a game breaker for alot of other armies especially in tournament play. Alot of the times I run trygon primes not for their synapse but for everything else they bring to the table like an assault 12 str6 gun for instance that will chew up infantry the turn you drop these bad boys.

I like trygon primes over the regular trygon, but the shooting attack from a trygon or trygon prime is not S6.
