Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm new to 40k and am looking for some help in the creation of a 500 point list. My local hobby shop plays at this point level every two weeks, so I figured it would be a good enough starting point level for my force.
As I am still new to 40k, I have just started learning the rules and don't have a good grasp of what it takes to make a good force. So I look to you all for some guidance in a reasonable starting force. I should hope that it stands some chance in winning at this point level, and that the models purchased will be re-usable as I increase my forces size.
Thank you in advance.
There are many things you can do at this point, do you want your army in the future to be based on MCs or swarm? However, no matter what in 500 pts. tyranid prime, some warriors and maybe a hive(if you pick the hive I'd drop the prime) with a lot of gaunts should be reasonably good.
Hi there Trygon thanks for responding to my post.
As I mentioned I'm not all that familiar with 40k terminology, as I am just starting out. I can piece together what swarm might entail, using lots of the gaunts and genestealers I presume to overrun your opponents, but what does MCs mean?
MCs mean monstorous creatures, which are stuff like carifex's, Hive tyrants, tervigon, tyrannofex etc. when or if you got a codex: tyranids have a look at entry of unit type and it will say whaT it is. MCs have special rules which are in the rulebook so have a look. right if you want 500pt lists i will give you a swarm list and a MCs lis:
Prime-Regeneration two sets of talons
That is exactly 500pts
If you want A mixture of the both this is a good idea
1 Hive tyrant- 2 scything talons and regeneration
Tervigon- Catalyst, Regeneration
That is also 500pts so your choice hope this helps yu
i am meant to put soething clever and cool in this box, But do you know what i really cant think of anything at all. LOL <-----sums me up very well
Okay, if your just starting out then the first thing you want to get is a battleforce which represents very good value for money, and also contains very useful models for later use. This will get you a total of 16 guants of each type, 8 genestealers and 3 warriors. If you add to this a tyranid prime, you get a cheap and effective leader for your force. So after your battleforce i recogmend buying another box of warriors in-order to make your prime, and then you have a further 2 warriors to use. Then i recogmend buying a venomthrope, because your basic troops will almost never get to make an armour save from shooting, so the 5+ cover save you get is invaluable.
So heres what all that would come to and the upgardes id recogmend.
HQ Tyranid Prime - a pair of rending claws - 85 (for future use id find a way to convert some boneswords, but as your just getting started lets keep it simple.)
Elites - Venomthrope - 55
Troops - 5 warriors with adreanl glands, 1 with a venom cannon - 190
Troops - 8 genestealers - 112
Troops - 10 termaguants - 50
So this list is ballanced, with a good mix of shooting and assault power. The warriors and genestealers are the heavy hitters, whilst the guants can run fire support for the warriors. The venomthrope should drift fractionally behind the main line, in order to provide that all important cover. This is also very cheap in costs, coming to a total of £80.
Hope thats useful for you.
