Welcome to Librarium Online!
OK, so I just got into the World of Warhammer 40K, and decided to roll the 'Crons. Im getting KILLED. I have played approx. 8 games against my buddies Black Templars, and haven't come close....like slaughterhouse, haha. ANYWAYZ, Heres the list I have been using, please help boys!!!!
Scarab Swarm x7
Total : 1456
Like I say, I have not been able to score a Victory against the CC heavy Templars, and need help. any suggestions? I should mention I also have Wraiths(x3) that I have used, but got wiped fast, haha I am looking to expand, and my first thoughts are more warriors and fill out my immortals to 10? idk, HEEELP! lol what do you think? I need to get a 'W' up on the board!
Drop the Dest Lord and consider giving your 1 Lord a VoD along with his Orb. VoD's with a Monolith near by will help your Warriors out a TON when they get charged by just getting out of CC (don't forget double WBBs through the Monolith!). Now drop the Immortals and spend your new points on more Destroyers and Warriors. Maybe even leave the Heavy Destroyer out. One by himself will not do enough and I bet he dies early anyway. If you have points left over fill out your Scarab swarms to 10 bases and use that to tar pit the things he gets quickly to you like assault marines or whatever.
I played a 2000pt army vs. Space Wolves and I had the following list.
Did very well. Deceiver can always leave CC, two Monoliths and a Lord with VoD constantly moved my Warriors out of CC plus the first two turns he wasn't at my ranks yet so thats 4 Whips that just ate his Marines.
That's how I roll against MEQs anyway.
There are a couple of guildelines when making a list :
- If you like one unit enough to take one, take a second one. This will greatly improve your WBB chances (the lone Heavy Destroyer is useless)
- warrior squads are more efficient at 10-man strong only. You run the risk or getting sweeped (since you WILL lose combat, better lose 10 warriors than 14)
- roughly take a squad of 10 warriors per 500pts, so about 3*10 at 1500pts
In your case, don't take a single Heavy Destroyer, take a second destroyer squad so that you can always take WBB rolls, and at this point cost, choose between imortals or destroyers
I don't have a clear opinion on double Lords, but the wargear you used puzzles me : the destro lord is amazing, but with scarabs, who needs a resorb ? There are some fantatic posts here to choose wargear depending on how you want to play, but basically it's mostly plain support (resorb) or Destroyer (Dbody, scythe, ...)
You won't be able to match CC-heavy armies on their turf. Desrtoyers are great to cripple transports and wound at range. What will prevent you from losing is how you can endure CC. Have warrior squads rapid-fire on assaulting troops, and try to keep everyone within Orb range. With some luck, you will be able to port through the monolith and send a nice volley on attackers. You can add scythe and phylactery if you expect terminators, but remember spyders work wonders against heavy troops.
Beware of your deployment and try to deploy as far from your opponent as you can, any corner does the trick. You might gain a whole round of shooting before he reaches your lines. Against CC orks 3*10 warriors, a ResOrbLord and a Monolith are super efficient.
I have never fielded wraiths so I'll leave others to comment.
I have finally scored couple victories after getting whipped in all my first games, tune your lists, know your opponents and be careful deploying. For instance, NEVER deploy destroyers visible to the enemy. They'll soon realize they are one of the best unit in our codex. Take advantage of their jetbike move and hide them, even if you win the toss. You won't have regrets when they seize the initiative

Thanks for the input! really appreciate it
Only in my last game did I first break out the monolith and Heavy Destroyer. I have been planning on grabbing another Heavy Destroyer or 2 to help with the lone gun so far, Maybe I will go with them, drop the destroyers and go with a few more immortals as well(they have impressed the most). The goal is to get towards 2000pts, so I could top off with more warriors, and perhaps tomb syders?
Also what do people think about the C'tan's? worth the point investment?
What do you think?
Thanks all, realllllllllly appreciate it!
( 0-8 ) lol
Heavy D's are really an undervalued unit : against most opponents, the amount of shots delivered by regular D's make up for their lower Strength. Against vehicles you have better alternatives than pray for a hit, a penetrating damage, and an explosion :/ You might as well disable it, and a 'Weapon destroyed' can help you almost as much.
Overall, people really favor regular D's over their heavier cousins.
Honestly in matter of THREATS. The following 3 are by far one of my favorites (although I don't lith spam).
Ctan (Highly recommend Deceiver)
The rest are fair...nothing over powered or major threat that can't be dealth with. Don't get me wrong...as a whole our army is durable shooty to shooty...

drop the heavy destroyer, the immortal and the scarabs and add more destroyers.
