I'm a new player wanting to plan out my army so i know what to aim for, purchasing wise.
I want to try and focus on getting into CC as quick as possible (hence the wings).
Old Adversary is to give the gargoyles a nice punch.
Shrikes will be going after any tough infantry.
Please feel free to make any suggestions and/or point out any shortcomings the list may have.
Ok, the army looks good However there are a few things that could be done to make this army ALOT more lethal:
1. Add some genestealers, if you look at any real Tyranid list you will see some genestealers, they are CC BEASTS! plus they ignore armor saves so they are perfect for killing those dam marines.. and they also work against vehicles form time to time >.>
2. Synapse, the Tyranid's achilles heel. It is basically like putting a leash on all of our units and giving it to our commanders, if a unit gets outside Synapse they freak and become hard to play.
So your tactic is rush everything forward, which is good, your Tyrant providing synapse for those Gargoyles etc, but what happens to the poor termies and hormies? they will be left in the dust left by those flying monsters, with no Synapse they will freak.
3. That carnifex is meh, ill tell you the build I ALWAYS run with my fex, it makes it a complete killing machine.
Carnifex + 2x Death spitters + brainleech worms
This will allow your fex to shoot.. 12 TIMES! with STRENGTH 6!!!!! that is sheer slaughter. plus it only costs 190pts, 5 more points than yours and it will work so much better.
I have yet to use Gargoyles, so I can not comment on them, most Tyranid players I see use them either OWN with them or they fail and waste points, I cant comment on that but best of luck.
P.S just picked up a Trygon Prime myself today, cant wait to try it out >

Thanks for your helpful reply
You said to add some genestealers into the army. The list I posted does have some, 8 and a Broodlord. Maybe just a simple oversight lol. But yea they destroy things in cc.. lots of fun
In regards to synapse I plan to walk the gaunts up with the 3 warriors behind them, providing synapse coverage. So I can't see it becoming that much of an issue unless the warriors go down early in some way.
Yeah iv played the heavy venom cannon fex a couple of times and found it to be quite dissapointing. Your version sounds much more interesting and i'll seriously have to consider changing that.
Thanks for your input
Youve actually got a quite decent list there considering your new to 'nids so congratualtions on that to start.
Theres a few minor points regarding upgrades i think youd do well to change, the first being that those hormaguants really want toxin sacs, or if you fancy having a go at some vehicles, adrenal glands. But not both, from expirience that makes them a bit expensive for how fragile they are.
I wouldnt have both sets on the gargoyles either, chose one or the other. On gargoyles id probablby say adrenal glands because youve got that lovley venom to hit high toughness targets already, but thats up to you.
Id also recogmend swapping those termaguants for hormaguants, as i find them decidedly inferior choices unless with a tervigon. But agian, if you make good use of them then by all means keep them.
Now this is where i come to my main problem with this list, and its that in 2000 points, you have a very limited amount of anti tank. Realistically youve only got the 3 MCs and the Shrikes to deal with heavy vehicles. If you come across a heavily mechanised list, your in real trouble. And whist normally i do like the dakka fex, ive got to say dont take him for your list. Youd be much better off paying an extra 5 points and going with a Trygon. The advantages to this are numerous but cheifly amung them are the fact it will be able to keep up with the rest of your force thanks to fleeting rather than shooting, and once there it will be better at taking out moving vehicles thanks to those tallons.
A word of advice to those shrikes to finish up, whatever you do, keep them behind a squad of gargoyles untill you reach the opposing line, because each one of those models is 50 points, and for that they are incredibly fragile, even bolters deny them a save so watch out for that. Keeping the behind a Gargoyle screen will provide them with a great 4+ cover save, and that should keep them alive.
Your friendly neighbourhood gargantuan creature
Very interesting thoughts Heirodule.
Toxin sacs on hormagaunts sounds like a good deal. Helping them overcome low strength will make them much more effective. Although its a lot of points I need to sacrifice somewhere else.
I would prefer to change the termagaunts to hormagaunts as you suggested, I just chose them because I already had most of the models. From a purely 'stonger army' point of view, I see the benefit.
I chose both upgrades on the gargoyles because of how unbelievably cheap they are. You get both of them for the price of one on hormagaunts. And seeing as I plan on having the 'unbiomorphed' gargoyle squad being in front, i'm hoping most of the buffed ones make it into cc. I also felt that having adrenal glands would mean the gargoyles attacking first most of the time, a big difference in cc.
I have thought about mech lists, and that I may be in trouble if I encountered one. If a veteran like you see's this problem then yeah it needs to be fixed. I really like your suggestion too. A Trygon for an extra 5 points!? Sounds like a no-brainer. Thanks for bringing it to my attention . Just makes me a little sad though because I already have a fex, painted too. I guess I can't let money get in the way of a good list haha.
And yeah, 50 points is expensive for a Shrike so I most definately plan on keeping them behind a garg screen.
Thank you very much for your help!
