Hey guys. Just starting up Eldar and have made this beginners list using advice from the forums here .
Please bare in mind, this list is only for friendly games with mates, and is only intended as a way for me to get started and get a feel for the different unit types Eldar have at their disposal!
Anyway, on with the list!
Farseer w/ Singing Spear, Doom, Guide
5 Fire Dragons, Exarch w/ Firepike, Crack shot
5 Howling Banshees, Exarch w/ Executioner, War Shout
10 Guardians w/ Eldar Missile Launcher
9 Dire Avengers, Exarch w/ 2 Shuriken Catapults, Bladestorm
Total - 599
Any feedback greatly appreciated. Please bare in mind I am working to a fairly tight budget at the moment, and the above lists' £ cost is just about affordable for me at the moment.
Thanks in advance guys,
Your Guardian and Dire Avengers are perfect-- don't change a thing! Though if you wanted, you could always add a Warlock with Embolden to the Guardians later; it compensates for their mediocre leadership and also adds a Witchblade which is always handy.
With the Farseer, you'll want to find points to give him Spirit Stones so he can cast two powers a turn. That's crucial to the most devastating combos in the Eldar army, like a Doom/Guide Bladestorm--32 S4 BS4 shots re-rolling to wound and hit. Ouch.
Banshees look fine, but for the Dragons I would drop Crack Shot and the Fire Pike. Actually I suppose I can see some merit to the Fire Pike in a footslogging list like this, though at higher points once you get the Dragons a transport it's kind of useless-- if the exarch is the only one in range (for 2d6 melta or otherwise) you're probably not going to destroy your target or survive the next turn anyway. And Crack Shot may be cheap but you can probably spend the points better in this (or most) lists. Outside of smokes or fast skimmers going Flat Out, not many vehicles or Monstrous Creatures will have a cover save, and one model ignoring it isn't likely to do much anyhow.
The only thing I'd change, keeping in mind the spirit of the original post, would be to change bainshees for scorpions. Scorpions are far more likely to survive to get to attack. Otherwise everything is fine, as long as you remember to Guide those guardians so their EML can hit!
Thanks for the tips guys. Just a couple of quick questions before I re-write the list.
The Scorpions... Would they be a better anti-assault unit than the Banshees then? Like, the Banshees/Scorpions would basically be an intercepter unit for anything that gets a little too close to my shooty troops, so would the Scorpions increased survivability mean they'd be a better unit for this role?
Their second role would be to help get in and finish off any units which have been depleted by the fire from my ranged units too. Also my main opposition will be Dark Angels so they do have pretty decent saves.
And also, with the metal aspect warrior kits (Scorpions, Banshees, Fire Dragons etc), do you get pieces to represent all of the different exarch options or would I have to maybe do some converting?
We play friendly but still with WYSIWYG since we all feel it adds to the 'realism' of the game, and we enjoy a realistic game even if we are playing for fun, but right now I am far from a decent converter!
So, after these questions have been answered I'll put up my edited list and see what you guys think. Thanks once again for the pointers above.

The question is not really whether Banshees will kill more, they will, but their save will fail them. Scorpions will be shot at and survive most barrages, where Banshees will fall fairly hard. Plus, scorpion exarchs can take a power fist, so even they can get a power weapon.
As for the items: Most are included, but not all (such as the triskele)
You both raise some very interesting and useful points, which I've definately considered when re-writing this list, so thank you both very much.
I must admit I'm still not *completely* sold on Striking Scorpions but in a list which seems as fragile as this they do seem to have their uses, plus my Striking Scorpion squad is considerably cheaper than my Banshee squad, freeing up the points for Spirit Stones which I was foolish to ignore the first time I wrote my list!
I'm still quite keen on the Firepike, and also I don't really see where I'd spend the leftover 10 points (2 left over + 8 from the Firepike) if I did drop it. I had considered Shadowstrike on the Scorpions but a unit this small would probably get battered by fire, and good save or not, if it's the only unit nearby the volume of shots at it will see it off through the law of averages.
I'm assuming this could still see off the main threat in my main opponents army, which are 5 Terminators and a Dreadnought. The Fire Dragon's should see them off right? Judging from what was said in my previous thread it appears to be the case that they can, but again, any advice or clarification is welcome.
So how's this seem now guys? Once again all advice is welcome and wanted!
Farseer w/ Singing Spear, Spirit Stones, Doom and Guide
5 Fire Dragons, Exarch w/ Firepike
5 Striking Scorpions, Exarch with Scorpion's Claw
10 Guardians w/ Eldar Missile Launcher
9 Dire Avengers, Exarch w/ 2 Shuriken Catapults and Bladestorm
Total - 598
Any suggestions for this list guys?
Thanks once again,
