Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok so after viewing every army and researching pros and cons and what I think my play style will be, I have settled on Tyranids! I heard they got nerfed with this new Codex but they still look amazing and fit my Play Style.
So, Basically ive read the codex and the rule book but I dont even know where to start for creating an army. My friends play CSM, Tau, and SM. The CSM i know he loves his bikes and berserkers, SMs has a land raider with a squad of termis, and the Tau looks like it has a lot of Flame template based weapons.
I wanna build a Powerful 1500 pt Army so that its balenced with other armies but I will be able to slap my friends around =P.
Can anyone help me out with this list please? The only thing I understand about Tyranids other than them being a horde army is that the Monterous Creatures sit back and shoot while the little guys run in and CC it up!...
Please help me out =P
~Thanks in Advance~
Welcome to the Hive! Lets start at the start then.
I would recommend a Hive tyrant with wings and scything talons (Very big and powerful, if it gets to CC it will destroy almost everything, plus it has wings so it can move like jump infantry)
20 hormagaunts with toxin sacs (There main goal, is to get into CC and keep them busy from shooting, because if your fighting in CC you cant shoot, so think of these guys as your time buyers, don't expect them to live for very long though.)
For my synapse (A link that binds everything to the hive mind, certain creatures have synpase that makes the weaker creatures around him much more lethal) I would add 3 tyranid warriors maybe all with deathspitters and barbed stranglers.
8 genestealers (These will win you the game, they can ignore armor saves and can out-flank, let them run loose and they can destroy anything in CC, in my opinion, they are the best unit the tyranids have. On a side note keep them far away from shooting or they will die.)
For your elites take 2 or 3 Hive guards, these will be your anti-tank. If you play some games and you find they arnt killing the vehicles add 2 zornthropes with a mysetic spore, but you should be able to preform fine with those in a 1500pt game
My fav area for the tyranids. Here you have 2 options. option 1, take a carnifex. With that carnifex use it like:
Devourer with Brainleech worms
Devourer with Brainleech worms
That will give you 12 strength 6 shots in a single turn of shooting. I love it
option 2. Get a Trygon, and if you can find the points make it a trygon prime. These will destroy anything in CC, I have played games, it has destroyed a squad of 10 tactical marines and left without loosing a wound. They are very fun to use.
In summary, those models will set you at 1592 points, that is if you take BOTH the tryogn and the fex, if you drop the fex you have 1402 points, if you drop the trygon you have 1352 points. With those extra points, add 2 zornthropes in a mysetic spore for anti tank That should brng you back up to 1500 points. So good luck! do the hive proud!

(just so u know MC dont have to sit back and shoot, they can be very good in CC.) i would have a good squad or two of stealers(they are a sm players worst nightmare) and mybe through in a brood lord. the only thing i would worry about for the stealers is the berserkers,(man those things are nasty) i would also have some good old reliable hive guard and zoans for armor. i personaly run a dakka-fex(two devororers with brain leach worms) who pumps out 12 str-6 shots a turn! (P.S. if you want more detailed help put up a list so people can edit.)
K thanks for the Suggestions. Ill read over the codex angain and develop a list for you guys to edit. On a side note, how do nids do against Tau, CSM, and SM?
how well the do is usually depending on your play style, and types of units you run, normally if you want work out a well balanced and prepaird all deep strike army tau have a very small succes chance since they depend on range, on the other hand csm and sm to my knowledge have a HUGE variety from weaponry. from my experince my friend who plays MS has tons of template weapons, crack/frag nades, rocket launchers, flamers etc so getting them into cc fast is good, but it might cost you depending on were you land and etc
I just started out as well and I like being able to get into CC fast but I also like haveing support, So with the help of all the brilliant minds that traverse theese forums I created a balanced list. capable of doing damadge in CC as well as being able to take out heavy infantry and vehicles at the same time. A balanced list I think is always a good way to start learning
My army is posted in this sub forum titled, My 1500 point friendly army, or I could just do this instead
http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ndly-army.html ( does not know how to make the hyperlink word things yet ]
so take a look see what you like and if it fits your style, you can always change it around to your tastes, I have a few fast units and a winged tyrant but if you dont like that you can take the wings off and remove the gargoyles and could afford 2 fex's or a fex and a base trygon. since you said MC's are the way to go
hope it helps feel free to keep asking questions, someone will be sure try to answer your question
So as im reading others list and trying to create my own I notice something. In the Codex for Tyranid Warriors it says ONE warrior in the brood may exchange his Devourer for a Barbed Strangler. Then it says the ENTIRE brood may exchange their Devourer for a Deathspitter. But I keep seeing people say something like 3x Warriors, all with Barbed Strangler AND Deathspitter...
Also I see a LOT of notes for allowing a Brood to take a Mycetic Spore for 40 pts but it doesnt look that amazing. I guess its most noted for taking it with 2x zornthropes and they dont seem too good either. Am I missing something?
Can anyone Explain these things to me please?
As for Pods and zoanthropes... well theyre awsome!
Spore pods give you what is basically deep strike for XX points. This is incredibly useful with certain units, carnifexs, Guants, Zoanthropes ect ect. Basically they put you in range straight away, and mean your opponent only has 1 real chance to kill them before they assault. They're also very good to contest objectives with.
And zoanthropes, well they mount the most powerful anti-tank weapon in the game (from the point of veiw of pure stats) They never requrie more than a 2 to glance, have S10 and they get Ap1 as well. I regulaly run 3 in a pod and if the powers go off, that tank is nearly always killed, or severley wounded. Plus they have a very nice marine killing blast aswell.
