Welcome to Librarium Online!
This is, um, not my army. It's my girlfriend's. We're both just getting started with Warhammer, so we don't have a lot available, but looking for suggestions and commentary on her starter army setup. As the title says, this is 700 points exactly. Will be matched up against Eldar (me) and Imperial Guard almost exclusively, if that matters with this few points.
HQ: Warboss @ 90
Elites: Nobz (5) @ 140
'eavy Armour (5)
Waaaaagh! Banner (1)
Troops: Boyz (40) @ 270
Big Shoota (2)
Rokkit Launcha (2)
Trukk @ 65
Red Paint Job
Deffkoptas (3) @ 135
Twin-linked Rokkit Launcha (3)
The plan, such as it is, is for the Warboss and Nobz to ride in the Trukk, using the boarding ramp to allow the Warboss to krump my Eldar Wave Serpent if necessary. The koptas are there for ranged antitank. The Boyz are split into two squads of 20 - one with Big Shootas and one with Rokkit Launchas.
As for things to add: She has the Ork section of the Assault on Black Reach kit, as well as the Ork battleforce. She'd really like to not have to buy any more new models for a while, so this is what we have to work with: 1 Warboss, 5 Nobz, 40 Boyz, 1 Trukk, 3 Warbikers, 3 Deffkoptas.
Not a bad start at all. Putting the Warboss and Nobz in the trukk is the way to go, but the boarding plank is useless unless you just want the cool factor.
You can't have 40 boyz in a mob, max is 30.
The collection is SCREAMING for power klaws. You don't want to buy anything - if you did, get the Nobz box - but at least chop the PK off the Warboss and put it on a Nob.
*grins sheepishly* I was unclear on the Boyz configuration, I guess - it's two squads of 20, not a single squad of 40.
I'm missing something here - why is the PK better on a Nob than the Warboss? Nobz only have Strength 4, as opposed to the Boss's 5. Obviously having klaws on EVERYONE would be preferable...
A PK is better on a Warboss, but vital on a boyz nob because it is often the only way that mob can deal with hard targets. You mentioned having a complete AOBR set - which would include a second warboss. I'm opposed to having two Warbosses in the same force org and advise you to hack the PK off of the extra boss and upgrade a nob.
And then try to find more PK parts.
The warboss that's in the list IS the AOBR warboss. ^_^;;
Will definitely try to acquire more PKs. Thanks for the help!
Cossack is right, what you really need are powerklaws and bosspoles. Always give every unit of boyz and nobz a powerklaw and bosspole.
At this point level, it's okay to put the warboss in a large unit of boyz, instead of giving the boyz a nob with a powerklaw and bosspole. Personally, I think the nobz will be powerful enough without him, but it's up to you.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
