Hey guy I've just started painting/playing WH40K. I've only ever seen games played and have never played one myself... so I have very little knowledge that the list I wrote will actually be any good or not. Any criticism would be greatly appreciated. The miniatures I have at the moment (mostly unpainted) are 10 Dire avengers, 10 Guardians with the weapons platform, Farseer with spear, Farseer with blade, 3 warlocks, Wraithlord, 2 Warwalkers, Wave Serpent, 6 Harlequins and 5 Rangers. The list I have come up with is:
Dire avengers x 5
Exarch Upgrade with 2 Shuriken Catapults and Bladestorm
Rangers x 5 Pathfinders Upgrade
Farseer with Fortune and Spear
Warlock x 3 one of them with Doom
Wave Serpent with Star Engines Upgrade and Twin-Linked Shuriken Cannon
Adds up to Exactly 500 pts. The warlocks and the seer go together as 1 Unit in the Serpent which can drop them off near the enemy and use its star engines to shoot back to the DA to grab them also and bring them closer. Is the singing spear on the farseer enough to kill tanks in a 500pts game? Is star engines useful at all? Like i said I have never played a game with my eldar but it looks good in the codex anyway lol. I suppose if star engines and the shuriken cannon on the serpent is no good i could take them out and swap doom for embolden that will give me enough points for Eldar missile launchers on the serpent? Any criticism would be great.
Thanks in advance guys.
Dont know much about building lists for 500 points however i can tell you this: Star engines are not worth it, and warlocks cannot take doom, they can only take one of the warlock powers (Embolden, destructor, enhance or conceal)
Piggybacking on Draconfly's response:
Star Engines are usually not worth it - Wave Serpents are fast enough as-is and losing the turn of embark/disembark really hurts. In a 500pt game I'd think real hard about actually including a seer council - that's a lot of points for not a whole lot of units. If you DO take them, make sure you get Conceal. Singing Spears (on both the warlocks and the seer) are a fantastic upgrade for how little they cost. If you're dead-set on having Fortune (and I can understand why you are), keep it, but Guide and/or Doom makes Bladestorming Dire Avengers very scary.
Personally, I'd drop the warlock squad, fluff out the Dire Avengers to 10, and replace the shurikannon on the WS with bright lances, solves your antitank problems.
Farseer @ 88
Fortune, Singing Spear
Wave Serpent @ 145
TL Bright Lance, Spirit Stones
Dire Avengers (10) @ 152
Exarch (dual shuriken catapults) w/ Bladestorm
Pathfinders (5) @ 120
497 points. Mount the farseer and DAs in the wave serpent, drop the Pathfinders on some nice cover.
