well I've been reading through some of the more special special units at the disposal of tyranids and I discovered ymgarls are super amazing
around here we primarily play 1k games, and mostly for fun since for the most part were all starting out and I'd thought I'd try to make a list with them in there, aside from removing the ymgarls or adding a tervigon, reason for no tervigon is I don't have the resources to create or supply the gaunts for him.
I'd love to hear your feedback as to how I could change it around at all, The original plan was to have 5x warriors and a larger gaunt screen but I couldn't figure out a decent way to keep the hive guard in synapse and decent cover, so I split up the gaunt screen and added some warriors for them. this is what I have so far, I had 12 points extra so I added 1 gaunt and a B.sword L.whip.... 12 points is weird to work with. anyhoo this is what I have so far
Tyranid Prime, B.sword L.whip, adrenal glands
 3 hive guard
 2 zoanthrope w/spore
 6 ymgarl stealers
4x warriors, 4x rending claws, 3x devourer, 1x barbed strangler
 3x warriors, 3x D.boneswords, 2x devourer, 1x barbed strangler
 11x hormagaunts, toxin sacs
 10x hormagaunts, toxin sacs
It seemed reasonably solid in my head considering, what do ya'll think?
I 100% agree. Ymagarls own. They are very good for their points, I do very much like that list, I would lose a squad of warriors and add something else in, maybe upgrade the prime to a Flyrant? I do know that it uses up a lot of points in a 1000 point army, but it is totally worth it! plus, its more or less a brilliant distraction for those stealers, if they see a flyrant running at them, whilst being outflanked by stealers they will split their fire, instead of going full boar into the stealers (which we don't want) Dont forget it is possible in a single turn of assault to take a massive chunk out of an opponents army, besides from that love the army, it is very balanced, good work

Biggest problem is that you cannot bring the Zoanthropes in a pod nor the Ygmarls in effectively. It will be an average of Turn 4 before you bring them in. If you are going to use Ygmarls, then you need a Hive Commander. A Hive Commander Flyrant sounds nice, but with this set up every gun in the enemy army will point and shoot his way.
You would be better off dropping the Prime and the big Unit of warriors, and a hive guard for a dual brainleech Hive commander with Tyrant Guard with Lashwhips. You lose some anti armor but gain the ability to more reliably bring in the rest of your army. Tyranids can't afford to bring in Reserves on a 4+.
hmm, drop prime and 4x warrior group,
I"d prefer a dakkarant to walk up with the hive guard w/ maybe HVC and hive commander, which would leave me with 35. I have a feeling the flyrant wont actually make it to see CC before the ymgarls or zoey's kick the bucket, leaving him out to dry. but if I did he'd be, 2x scything, wings, hivecommander, which would put me at 1,001 again
