I work at a game store and have been watching the game for awhile now. Two days ago I picked up the 'nid codex and read it front to back and back again. This is the first army I've created for a 1000pt challenge from a co-worker, and I thought it was a good place to start.
Tyranid Warrior x 5
Termagaunts x 20
Hormagaunt x 20
Hormagaunt x 20
Between the two Primes and Warriors I should have enough synapse to go around. Thoughts?
You have good synapse but lack anti tank. What army are you going up against? I would suggest some Hive Guard for some mid range anti tank. They're tough little guys and if kept behind some of your guants would get cover saves too boot. I would suggest ditching the regen on the Tyranid Prime. He'll have a very poor chance of getting those wounds back because of how few he has, especially if he is picked on in your enemy's shooting phase though I'm sure he'll be with the warriors.
I would also recommend scraping the Termagaunts completely to make up for HG. But if anything take off the Devourers, it's a waste of points for things that are meant as cannon fodder. I would also see that you had some hard hitting Close Combat guys. Genestealers usually do the trick and taking a broodlord with them is a nice touch. They would fall in behind the Hormaguants or come in Flanking/deepstriking.
You also have two huge hormagaunt groups. Unless playing with kill points I say split them into 4 groups of 10. With them split up you can cover more ground with multiple run roles and take much more advantage of cover. Plus if playing an objective base game you have more of a chance to dispute or capture. I say trial run some of the ideas you like at home and see how they fare. Hit me up if you would like some more advice.
Best of luck, Papa Dot
Ok, so I took off the devourers offthe termagaunts. This freed up 100 pts I used to spend on two hive guards for some anti-tank power. Today and tomorrow I'm actually going to start going around the tables and seeing what people are playing and see if any other changes would be in my best interest.
