Ok... so I am pretty new to crons and 40k in general. here is a list i have made up for a firepower based army. with a few "speed bumps." Please Advise as necesary.
- HQ: Necon Lord'
- Res Orb, GoF
- Elites: 6 x Immortals
- Troops: 10 x Warriors
- Troops: 10 x Warriors
- Fast Attack: 4 x Destroyers
- Fast Attack: 7 x Scaranbs w/ D. Fields
Total of 995 points.
SU-2,TF-38, PO-7/31, KP-6
I feel like this could be a good beginning list...but feel free to let me know any changes you would make. ill only have 1 Lord, 20 warriors, 6 immortals (4 of which have been converted from warriors), 7 Scarabs, and 4 Destroyers. i feel that this is the best i can do with the units i have. Opinions?
For the models you currently have, this is a fantastic list, just make sure to keep those Immortals near your Warriors to help improve your Phalanx. Outside of that, as soon as you can, I'd replace those Scarabs with more Destroyers as Destroyers are the best unit we can currently field and the more the merrier. Until then, like I said, this looks like a great list, especially for a beginner.
World Eaters: W-47 D-10 L-9
Necrons: W-19 D-3 L-2
Protectorate of Menoth: W-36 D-0 L-7
Depending on your opponents don't be too quick to get rid of the scarabs. They can deal with quite a few units in cc purely through numbers and are great for zooming across the board and trying up big shooty stuff.
Scarabs are my best friend. I have never fielded Destroyers (yes I know how good they are) but for xxx points I field 10 Scarab bases that can glance any armour, turbo boost, move through cover without taking a test, fearless, xx wounds and xx attacks on the charge. Just keep them away from S6+ and blast/template weapons and they reward me in spades.
So much so that I field 30 bases, in three swarms of ten, all with disruption fields. One swarm is joined by a Lord with destroyer body, warsythe, lightning field and gaze of flame. With this swarm there is nothing in the game that I fear.
I completely disagree with your playstyle. Don't even think about winning against horde-swarm armies, such as orks and IG. Ork boyz are much better than scarabs. What is more, an ig player with 2 hellhounds can exterminate all your scarabs in just 2 rounds.
I appreciate your point re. Hellhounds, that is what I use Heavy Destroyers/Immortals to deal with (especially as I use Immortals with a veil Lord). For example in a recent game used veil to pop up Immortals behind a Vindicator, shot its rear armour, wrecked it.
Also don't imagine that I just chuck the Scarabs across the board at full tilt, they work with the other units in my army (namely Heavy Destroyers, Immortals and Warriors).
Another point worth remembering is that when you turbo boost you gain a 3+ cover save (BR, but Scarabs gain +1 to their cover saves. So turbo boosting effectively gives them a 2+ cover save.
The Scarabs do not win games on their own, but when used well, in combination with other units, they are in my opinion a very useful unit.
