okay, so here we go, trying to make a 1500 pts tyranid list. need some advice on what to do, don't have much experience with making army lists but lets give it a try
Tyranid prime 100 pts
Whip and sword
2 hive guards 100 pts
2 zoan's 120 pts
might want these in a pod
5 warrios 285 pts
1 with barbed strangler
8 genestealers 222 pts
14 termagants 70 pts
For the zoan's or the genestealers 40 pts
16 gargoyles 128 pts
trygon prime 240 pts
Total 1500 pts
So here it is, just rip it apart. would like to know what you all think of it and what need to be done to make it better
Gaunts to my nmind are only worth it if buffed by a tervigon. I prefer homogaunts if there is no tervigin. I also like regen on warrior primes, it is a cheap bonus and I like allocating to the to save other things from insta death s8 stuff.
I find broodlords should be replaced with more stealers, and that ad is wasted on stealers. Others love broodlords tho.
Hmmm. That is a pretty good attempt for a first try, but it could be improved:
Take a tyranid prime, in 1500pt games tyranid primes tend to be flying slaughter houses. Id take a Flyrant, something simple but effective, id take hormagaunts with toxin sacs, I dont use termagaunts without the tervigon, for 1 point ea (per base model) the hormagaunt tends to be able to do SO MUCH MORE!
Kill off the thropes, and depending on what your doing either have a 3 (man?) brood of hive guards, or if you are going up agianst a more vehicle heavy list 2x 2 hive guards.
So with these, you could use the genestealers to infiltrate to the sides, whilst your flyrant with gargoyels fly up and within no time your opponent will be swarmed. If you want put the hormagaunts into the spore, but just fiddle around and see what best suits you. Good luck
Your list ATM needs more anti-tank. NNP was pretty spot on with 2x2 hive guard, and a flyrant. Infact his advice was pretty damned good on the whole. To add to it a little, drop the Toxin sacs from the warriors, and both upgrades on the stealers. Drop the gargoyles and terms (too fast) for those toxin sac hormaguants and then try to get as many hive guard as you can.

I meant a venomthrope! And i stand by my comment on a tyrant guard with the flyrant otherwise he has 8 krak missiles and 4 lascannons in his face against the space wolves i play, ever turn. And yes on the trygon. Must we go through all this debating once again heirodule!
Absolutly not on the flyrant. Its just suicide, you pay 60 points for the wings, and then another 60 so you cant use them!! Its a horrendous idea. And albeit about the wolves, but in reality if your using a tyrant as a bullet magnet and as your only MC, your doing it very very wrong.
Venomthrope, fair but still wrong You simply shouldnt need them, use layers for cover, you get a better save. Only take venomthropes for the defensive bonuses, not the cover.
Tyrgon i agree theyre great but not in this list. 2 trygons, a Tyrant and a tooled up warrior squad will leave him with too few points to cover the other areas of anti-tank and objective claiming. It would be far too easy to play tactically, remove the anti-tank elements first, pick off the troops choices, and in the meantime, the trygon still has to crack open that transport.

Ha, scared me with the first quote Heriodule, made me think I said something wrong . But I 100% agree, NEVER take TG with a flyrant. NEVER. If protection is what you want for it invest in gargoyles to screen it, but it should be find in a small point game.
okay, thanks to all of you, and now i have come up with a new list, that i hope is a little better but here we go
Hive tyrant 250
Tl devouers with Brainleech
Tyranid Prime 100
Sword n whip
2 Hive guard 100
2 hive guars 100
16 Hormagaunts 128
8 Genestealer 128
4 warrios 190
1 Barbed strangler
20 Gargoyles 160
1 Trygon prime 240
So i hot 104 points left, so do this list look a little better, and what should i do with the lat 104 pts ?
Again thanks to all of you!
I am not using my tyrant as the only MC bullet magnet. I have a flyrant, a tervigon and a trygon (can't remember if it's a prime or not) in my list. The guard doesn't negate the flyrants ability to fly. I wouldn't mind using an extra 60 points to keep the flyrant on one wound left and then regain wounds with leech in my next turn. Now that's work it for 60 points, instead of say more hormaguants when i already have 25 or an extra venomthrope to make it a squad of 2. or worse! Turning my trygon into in a tyrannofex! .
I also use the venomthrope to make counter charges against me costly and for cover. You can't use layers for cover on your MCs! You should know that, even with other mc's covering mcs that ridiculously hard with even 3 MCs. And no gargoyles never give MCs a save, i would never accept that because they have so many gaps and hole inbetween themselves to cover atleast 50% of the fat boy. Plus they only cover the middle of the MCs, not the head and not the legs which is usually where most of the tyranid MCs bodies are.
For the new list, i would cut the warrior squad down to just 3 warriors with a bard strangler and grab a squad of 10 toxin hormaguants to outflank with genestealers who don't really need upgrades, maybe 7 genestealers supporting 10 toxin hormagaunts are enough.
