General plan is for the Tyrant to charge up with the Gaunts, using the Gargoyles as a screen. Genestealers to take out heavy weapons or elites, Nids to provide fire power and take objectives, Carnifex will take some heat off the Tyrant and maybe pop a tank, which is what the Hive Guard will be trying to do. Tyrant could also help with anti-tank if needed. The Lictor is there for his looks and to hopefully cause a headache when he pops up as an assasin or to contest objectives late in the game...

at that point level I would be taking 4 or 5 hive guards, I take 2 in my 500 point games . So lets just start at the start.
Not bad, id change it to -
Hive Tyrant- 2 x Scything Talons, acid blood, Wings, hive commander
For an additional 5 points you get SO much more killing power.
As mentioned above, add an additional 2 hive guards (if we have left over points we can add another one)
Love the 2x 20 hormagaunts.
I would personally drop a squad of warriors and change the remaining squad to a group of 3 and give them:
3x Tyranid Warriors - All with 2x bone swords
So they provide a bit more "umph" in CC
Big fan of stealers with broodlord, just make sure they dont get shot at.
With the additional points from the warriors increase the group size to 20, so they can support your flyrant and give them AD or TS (up to you)
In this list you already have so much CC ith those changes, so id recommend making him a dakkafex for some ranegd fire power. -
Carnifex- 2x twin linked devourers with brainleech worms
This still leaves 100 points left over, with those id get another hive guard and you can either-
get another hive guard
buff out your gargoyle squad by adding more
(Note- If you play this list and find its to much CC, change the flyrant and give it 2x twin linked devourers for more ranegd power)

I do like this list aswell, nice for a first timer with 'Nids. My suggestion is since you're not using Deep Strike too heavily, the Lictor can go - favour Deathleaper for his nifty abilities and unkillable-ness (provided he isn't locked down at close range). On the other hand, you can go for some Zoans - more AT for your army
I like NNP's advice, on the line of the gargoyles, they need to be at least 20 strong, and have both AG and TS. its, (for 1) to cheap not to upgrade and 2 makes them very effective on the charge since upgrades now stack (for the 1 turn of combat in this case anyway)
fex is almost useless with the new codex, ive seen 5 terminators demolish 3 carnifexs, only 2 terms died, personally id get rid of the fex and add something else like a trygon possibly or at least something other than a fex, i used to love the carnifex but now ive been very disappointed with mine.
