Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am probably never going to enter an tournament but when i read about all the competitive eldar army lists they are written with a small force being 1500 points! which in my book is actually the largest game i'm ever likely to play.
currently i play an absolute glass cannon army (list below) with my main opponents being Necrons (phase out removed) and Tau (a newbie who seems to like jsj tactics) on a 48"x48" board and moderate to heavy cover.
so simply put, what style of army is used for a game size for 1000 points, 750 points and 500 points in a tournament style.
my list (how i play 1000pts):
Banshee squad with 10 members and executioner, in Wave serpent
x2 10man guardian squads with EML
Wraithlord with sword and lance
essentially i protect my super vunerable troops via cover, banshee charging, pinning and giant annoying Wraithlord (Kenpachi). Guadian squads hang back and pot shot transports/tanks. main problem is that if the banshees or night spinner die i am in trouble.
First I would just like to point out that this should be in the army list section. Secondly looking at your list I see you don't have any transports so an Avatar providing your troops with fearless will help prevent you troops falling back.
I tend to lean on the side of waveserpents for my units but I have been meaning to try out a foot slogging list just for fun which will consist of the Avatar, storm guardians and 3 wraithlords along with what ever else the points would allow.
In fact I can't actually remember the last time I had a low point game...the lowest I've played in the last 6 months is 2500Pts. My friends and I don't get to meet up often to have a game so we make sure we have a big one to make the most of the time we do have available.
competetive eldar lists at 1000 points are basically 2-3 wave serpents and 2 prisms.
So like Doom seer,
normal size banshee squad
2 DA squads
2 prisms (naked)
Then next, dont lose your prisms early. Use them to pop transports.
Eldar -APOC- 6500 Points
Chaos Daemons -Fate Crusher- 3500 Points
Grey knights - 1000 Points
ive found that the most effective in 1000 points and under are maxxed out wraithlord(3) lists with harlies!
is it possible to play a mech list lower than 1000pts?
I'd love to try out the wraithlord in these small battles, too. Sounds fun. I'm sure my pals will be thrilled...
when it comes to wraithlords in small games i find multi tasking it a good idea. I give mine a brightlance and wraithsword so it can mince vehicles at shooting and close combat whilst not being so easy to swamp with swarms (rerolls work miracles). Another point of note for 1000pts is that every army seems to have 1-2 pivotal units that if you destroy, their moral goes through the floor and army suddenly becomes ineffective. my personal problem/grudge is that for the necrons guy i play (without phase out) that his pivotal units are the monolith and the new tomb stalker (trial rules) vs my flimsy night spinner and quite controlable banshee squad. The only way i can see to counter that problem would be to cut the number of banshees and add something else as to try and make more but weaker pivotal units, or go mech
off the top of my head (so could prolly use some playing with):
Guide seer with RoWard
5 FDs in a serpent with stones (t.l shuri)
3 war walkers with 2 scatter lasers
3 war walkers with 2 scatter lasers
Falcon with shuri, holo and stones
5 DAs (for the falcon)
I min/max and i favour shooting. certainly not a fan of banshees in competitive play.
