I today talked with a friend about building a tyranid army and as he's probably the best player around my parts I took some of the advice he gave and came up with this.
==Total 500 pts. ==
== HQ ==
Tyranid Prime (1) - Deathspitter, Pair Of Boneswords = 95 pts.
== Elites ==
Zoanthrope (1) - Mycetic spore = 100 pts.
== Troops ==
Ripper Swarm Brood (5) - Spinefists, Tunnel Swarm = 85 pts.
Tyranid Warrior Brood - Mycetic spore (220 pts.)
Tyranid Warrior (4) - Deathspitter, Scything Talons
Tyranid Warrior (1) - Barbed Strangler, Scything Talons
I'm mostly concerned about the warrior brood weapon upgrades and the lonely zoanthrope. As well as I know that these upgrades can prove useful and that the zoanthrope might be needed as anti tank.
I will mostly be facing space marines and orks as that's what most of my friends have, and I'd like to have a chance of winning.
Tactics would be to drop the spore with warriors+prime to take out dangerous stuff first (like that librarian or what the heck the orks use), the ripper swarms mostly to catch up infantry (the big ork groups or something that shoot nasty stuff) in melee combat, zoanthrope in case of armour and when (or if) the rippers are dead the warriors (hopefully) can turn their attention to the group that were held in melee.
I'd like to keep the "keep things out of the table in the begging to launch it on the opponent" strategy if possible. Otherwise I'll strip the list posted for me here to 500 points to begin with and then build it out after time.
Hope I'll get some response.
Actually this is illegal. You can't attach an IC to a unit in a Spore. Check out the FAQ.Tactics would be to drop the spore with warriors+prime to take out dangerous stuff first (like that librarian or what the heck the orks use)
Also there is the problem of an all DS army. You can't choose which units come in first and which come in second. It's all up to the dice roll starting on turn 2.
Even then it's not reliable that all of your army will show up at once without a Hive Tyrant with the Hive Commander upgrade. You'd really need your entire army to show up at the same time to do any damage.
At 500 I'd be very wary of using the tactic in general as anything with S8 or better will just make mince-meat out of your warriors and zoanthrope the turn they arrive.
Remember, you can't assault the turn you come in by DS. You'll have to wait until at least turn 3 (possibly turn 4 with bad reserve rolls) before you can even get into close combat.
