Welcome to Librarium Online!
So I put together a smaller-point list for competitive play and to get used to the army. This is the latest incarnation of my first 'Nid list.
Tyranid Prime: 85 points
Hive Guard Brood: 100 points
Hive Guard Brood: 100 points
Zoanthrope Brood: 160 points
Tyranid Warrior Brood: 145 points
Genestealer Brood: 140 points
Termagant Brood: 240 points
Termagant Brood: 100 points
Hormagaunt Brood: 160 points
Trygon: 265 points
Total: 1495 points
So here's the strategy.
My Prime will lead my Warriors, needless to be said. The brood will mainly stick to cover and hold objectives, firing their deathspitters at whatever gets close.
They'll be screened by the 20-strong broods of normal Termagants and Hormagaunts.
The Mycetic Spore Termagants drop in and clear out pesky infantry on objectives, in my opponent's backfield or wherever they're needed.
The Genestealers will infiltrate and work on capturing or at least contesting the farthest objectives, attempting to wipe out any troops stationed on them.
My Hive Guard will pop transports and light vehicles, needless to say. The Zoanthropes will crack open tough armor, like the odd LR that pops up in 1.5k.
My Trygon Prime will show up and tear up whatever needs dealing with. Hopefully it'll provide adequate synapse for the Devilgants when they drop in.
What do you think?
Not bad, but could use some work.
Get your prime a power weapon, theres no reason not to. Double bonesword couldn hurt, nor lash and bone. Its your choice really. Either way, he aslo wants adrenal glands.
Grab rending on the warriors.
Genestealers need a broodlord.
The termaguants are just plain useless, axe them.
Im not a fan of the podding guants, no reserves bonus means they could be pretty late, not to mention I tend to find them very ineffective even when they do come in. For those points, you could grab more hormaguants, and another trygon or something.
Lose regen from the prime
Your friendly neighbourhood gargantuan creature
The Warriors don't have CC as their priority; I'm using them for objective holding and ranged support. Hence, additional upgrades would be a waste of points. If I was going to use them in CC, I'd use boneswords, no doubt, but I'm not.
The Genestealers might be better off with a Broodlord, sure, but people have used them to good effect without upgrades or a Broodlord before. If the list was meant for a higher point game, I'd take one.
What makes you say that? The normal Termagants shield my army and tie up my opponent, along with the Hormagaunts. It's about target saturation in this case; giving your opponent a hard time deciding what to target. Without them, it'd be easier to kill off the Warriors and such.
I'll have to try them out. I figure they'd be decent at dropping down and shooting up GEQs to mess with my opponent's plans.
The Trygon has regeneration because that's my only one in this list. If I took a pair then I'd drop it, sure.
