Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey guys got finals in a tournament coming up, 3 missions with heavy comp penalties. Mission 1 is seize ground with dawn of war deployment, 2 is capture and hold with spearhead deployment and mission 3 annihilation pitched battle.
RoW, RoWA, Spirit Stones, Fortune, Doom, Singing Spear 158 points
Asurmen 230 Points
5 Pathfinders 120 points
10 Dire Avengers 120 points
5 Striking Scorpions
Exarch with Biting Blade, Shadow Strike, 117 points
5 Fire Dragons 80 points
Scatter Lasers, Shruiken Cannon 70 points
Scatter Lasers, Shruiken Cannon 70 points
Wraithsword, Brightlance 140 points
Falcon Grav Tank
Scatter laser, Shruiken Cannon, 140 points
TOTAL 1245 POINTS
General idea in first two is to sit pathfinders on my objective, dragons to counter nasty tanks, vipers to reserve then objective snatch and Wraithlord to be my bullet magnet L. Mission 3 everything starts on so I have (potentially) 21 st6 shots from flyers alone. Comp is one of every unit type must be taken plus you can only double up once. It will be the deciding factor in draws. Thoughts? Questions? Thanks guys
Yeah I have some comments.
Firstly, without stomping your cake too hard....why on earth do you have a FootDar list?
maybe in your meta game it works but when ive been to any kind of tournie scene, it doesn't.
That leads me to say this, Mech! Now I realise your model collection may be a restriction here but Eldar really are (and I am actually going to say...without any form of argument) better as a Mech or jetbike build than footslog build.
Allow me to digress...
Keep the Seer as is, Good Build.
Drop Asurman, great but too pricey at this level.
Keep the pathfinders, best objective holder in the game.
Get the DA's a Waveserpent, they need the mobility to grab objectives etc.
Scorps are good, outflank or deploy forward, they will be wasted otherwise.
Dragons are my favourite Eldar unit. Again they need mobility, i assume they are going in the falcon..if not get them a serpent.
Now personally I hate Vypers, but if you have to take a fast attack slot you have two options, go cheap and take a single Vyper to be a nuisance, or spend more for some Spears, these guys are sweet as shock troops.
Not much wrong here. I always like a Prism or two. Be sure to use the Lord wisely, a clever opponent will ignore it (especially in KP games)
(Im going shout here) THAT FALCON NEEDS HOLO FIELDS!!!! otherwise our grav tanks suck....
anyway take from that what you will.
Unfortunatley, i am trying to use the models i have . I have heard nothing but praises for mechdar and plan to expand when i can. Asurmen is my one rock in combat, plus with the dire avengers keep them alive pretty hardcore, plus i love the model lol. Scorps outflank and dragons in falcon yes, i am trying to get that extra 35 for the fields but struggling. It is a beginner tourny and my lord has been the bullet magnet which is sad, but keeps the falcon alive. normally i turbo boost the falcon for the cover save anyway 1st turn. The vypers have been great in objective grabbing, risky but it gives me 3 (hopefully) grabbing units to deny my enemy. they have had mixed killing results but are good at distraction. Thats about the best i can defend myself i guess, i appreciate the criticism glad your not afraid to say it how it is.
Well you have to bare in mind that no one is here to stomp your ideas or belittle anyone in any way. Just here to help, which is what I assume the OP was meant for.
I understand the use of asurman, I think he is great. But at that low(ish) points level i personally think that a 230 point HQ unit is a tad too far. Dropping him alone would free up the points for the changes I suggested.
Failing that you could drop a Vyper and get Holofields and Spirit Stones for the Falcon, and Maybe an exarch for the dragons, that extra attack and Ld never goes amiss.
Good luck for your tournie, let us know how you get on.
Well, against all odds i actually came in 1st! The first game was against my mates marine gun line, and i destroyed his whirlwind, predator and dreadnought in the first two turns claimed two out of three objectives and contested the third.
Second game was against blood angels with mephiston, 5 sanguinary 10 assault marines, 2 Devastator squads, Baal Predator and a 5 man tac. Dragons managed to pop it on turn one, then got stomped by mephiston. assault marines came down, took one wound of the wraithlord with 2 melta, infernus pistol. then doomed blade stormed assault marines went down to 5, wraithlord stomped three more in combat. next turn guard deep strike in, shoot my DA killing...1. scorps outflank behind them asurman charges in first round kills all 5. in the end meph. killed my wraithlord then died against asurman, falcon contested his objective, win .
Third game, eldar groan... he was running a doom seer, avengers, 2 wave serpents, walkers guardians dragons spiders and scorps... tabled by turn five. in total i got 49/50 for the whole tournament, lost 1 point for not having painted objectives. Overall, asurman was tank, killing a chapter master in the first game, mephiston and sanguinary guard in the second and a fire dragon squad and moping up his DA with farseer.
Even i didn't expect this list to go so well, but was very pleased with the result. All my opponents were happy to see a different list to eldrad mechdar, so they had a blast too. Scorpions wiped out one scout squad all three games... most disappointed
Congratulations on your victory!
+rep for sharing your experience with us.
If you could, please elaborate on the performance of Scorpions and Pathfinders; I find them very interesting options in the codex, but they never performed all that great for me.
The Pathfinders in the first game took 2 wounds off the chapter master, as well as pinned him and sat on the objective. second game took out 3 remaining assault marines threatening their objective, and in the last game, they didnt do much at all, but it was a very one sided game. All in all, i like them for their ability to sit on an objective in cover and refuse to die.
Scorpions are a funny one, in the tournament the only were useful in the first game, where they butchered a scout squad off their objective. In the second game they killed nothing, and the third the stayed behind a building. Most disappointing, and in the three games before that they did nothing as well... thinking about perhaps Banshees instead hmmm.
In hindsight the list was good, and the scorpions were my fail safe against large mobs of orks, guard or lesser tyranids. Pathfinders are the best objective holders we have, plus pinning can be a bonus against low leadership units
Thanks for the rep, i was more then happy to share my first tournament victory! I will continue to post results and thank Stevie for his insight into the list.
one of the more-successful builds I ran for counter assault and assault infantry was a squad of Dire Avengers with Defend and Shimmer Shield. While fortuned that squad is incredibly resilient to melee and if led by an exarch, given additional power weapon, can dish out some amazing damage. and they are scoring, so if you can muster some more points for an extra transport, drop scorpions, you can have a counter-melee unit that can help your shooty unit of avengers
Hmmm I like that idea, i think i could get around 7 in the squad with an exarch and the wargear for the same cost as the scorpions... getting the transport however would be much harder. Definetly something to look at in the future though. Asurman was backed up with fortune and doom from my farseer but it only took two rounds of combat to take out mephiston. With that support, getting re rolls to hit, wound and saves he is very hard to kill . One of the most enjoyable moments was my Eldar opponent asking why I had him in my list... My second round opponent explained to him what he did in our game and he looked very worried
