Hey everyone, after a loooong absence from 40k I've decided to jump back in and re-collect a DE army. My requirements, at least straight away, is cost-effectiveness through making good use of three battle boxes and expanding from there. With only a few extra purchases, I made this list:
Blast Pistol, Shadow Field, Plasma Grenades, Ghostplate Armour, Combat Drugs, The Serpent's Bite
7, Shardcarbine x 5, Splinter Cannon x 2; Raider w/ Disintegrator, Flickerfield, Night Shields, Splinter Racks, Grisly Trophies
Kabalite Warriors-125 (3x, 375 total points)
5, Blaster; Venom w/ Splinter Cannon
Wyches-205 (3x, 615 total points)
10, Shardnet and Impaler, Hekatrix w/ Agoniser; Raider w/ Grisly Trophies
Reavers-156 (2x, 312 total points)
6, Heat Lance x 2
Razorwing Jetfighter-155 (2x, 310 total points)
Point Total: 1986
I'll convert the Duke using a mix of warrior and wych parts, and the trueborn are a $10 ebay purchase away from shardcarbine goodness. I like close combat so that's why the three wych squads, and the Duke gives a decent chance at the free pain token, not to mention just a greater chance to get a drug that you'll like. Also the reavers are staying; from what I'm reading they're a love-or-hate unit but I love them. I'm pretty settled on this list, at least to start, but just had a few general questions.
Will I get more mileage from the third kabalite warrior squad, or should I dump it for flickerfields, night shields, haywire grenades, etc? Or should I dump them to pick up a Ravager? Basically is one more anti-infantry, blaster-toting scoring unit worth more than army-wide durability or dedicated AT firepower?
I love the Razorwing models, and unlike Ravagers I won't feel like I've painted a ton of raiders in a row. However, if I dropped the razorwings I could get three naked ravagers. The anti-infantry threat of the jetfighters can't be denied, but the rest of the army is basically geared to take on infantry. Is it overkill? Should I go for the ravagers instead?
I'm not a min-maxer by nature and I feel an obligation to give my opponents a challenging but fun and fair game. That said, are the squads points-efficient? Is a single shardnet per wych squad adequate or do I absolutely have to take two? Are the five shardcarbines really worth the extra five shots or should I stick with normal splinter rifles (my thinking was that the splinter racks in conjunction with the Duke's 3+ wound ability would translate into 2 or 3 extra wounds per shooting phase while the squad is at max strength.) 17 points per model seems excessive for the trueborn but where else would the points go?
Thanks in advance for any advice on tweaking the list. I'll say in advance that as of right now I don't really want any haemonculi and I don't want to do a venom-spam list; wych-heavy and reavers are really where my heart lies so please keep those things in mind when suggesting any changes. Thanks!
Second this edition favors transports so you tend to see most armies taking them. So lets say your opponent brings 4 Rhinos with SM inside. How are you going to pop the vehicles. We really only have a few options:
A) Ravagers- Mandatory for every list that doesn't take WWP or focus on things like a Talos and lots of coven
Trueborn- With 4 with blasters (mobile) or 2 with DL (sniping)
C) Jetbikes- Lots of controversy on HL vs Blasters. For me i love the blasters because you don't have to be within 9 inches and you can double tough T4
D) Scourges- Get them with Haywires since it's really one of the best guns in the game.
Looking at your initial list I don't think you have enough to kill vehicles. Adding 2 Ravagers is a solid match with the razorwing. Really it's the best buy out there.
