Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm sorry, I don't mean to spam, but it's been a while since I've been on a list-making kick, and it's fun. This list seemed distinct enough to warrant a new thread too-- it's basically a hybrid of my oft-dreamed of All-Reserves and the Staple Foot army I actually do use. I've been thinking about what Heirodule was teaching me in the other threads. Also, thinking on jy2's thread about all-comer Tyranids having difficulties against Dark Eldar and Grey Knights, would a combination shooty army and fast deep strike make things better? Or worse? Here's an attempt at an all-comers with that in mind...
Swarmlord, Guard, Lash Whips 345
Tyrannofex, Rupture Cannon 265
2x Zoan, Pod 160
2x Zoan, Pod 160
3x Hive Guard 150
Tervigon, Catalyst, Toxin, AG 195
10x Termagants 50
10x Genestealers, Toxin 170
Assuming the list isn't fundamentally flawed, what would be a good use for the remaining 60 points? Bump up the gant unit? Add another Tyrant Guard and lose the lash whips? Change one Trygon to another Tyrannofex? Buy Onslaught for the Tervigon?
Sounds reasonably good to me. I'd buy another Tyrant Guard and lose the Lash Whips, as I find one Tyrant Guard is not enough. Either you have two or you don't have any, in my honest opinion. Actually the more I look at the list the better it seems. You'll do well with this.
The only issue I can see is your lack of troops that can capture objectives. If they kill your Tervigon then any gaunts around it are going to die and you're going to be left with some weak gaunts out of any support range and a group of Genestealers as your only troops that can capture, both of which will evaporate through concentrated fire.
I guess I'd try to squeeze another Tervigon in somehow along with 10 gaunts as a further troops choice.
I did feel that three Troops choices seemed a little on the barebones side at this points level, but as Warlord says, the Tervigon can at least be counted on to poop out a gant unit even if rolls doubles on the first go. Worse comes to worse, I can hide my small units in cover for safekeeping until it's time to race for objectives. Every game I've been in, I've usually had an abundance of Troops, but they never quite seemed to do the work they ought for their number. This way, I can try a list with fewer gribblies, half of which is intended to be super killy from the start.
And I suppose that settles it. I'm getting another Trygon, some Zoans, and kitting out some Spores. Maybe I'll try this list in my local tourney debut.
