Welcome to Librarium Online!
Okay, here is my 1500 point Nid list. I have 15pts left over and am trying to decide to give my Prime regen or spinefists to one brood of Termagants. What do you all think? Criticism welcome please.
Lashwhip and Bonesword
Hive Guard x2
Hive Guard x2
Tyranid Warriors x5
1 venom cannon
Tyranid Shrikes x4
Total: 1,485 pts.
Let me know what you think. Thanks!
Good list. It's the first I've come across for ages without having any big beasties. There are a few issues though:
- Warriors, Shrikes, and Raveners: all will be Instant Death-ed. Very big no no to rely on these as the brute force of your list.
- Termagants without a Tervigon are like fleas without a dog. I would sincerely recommend you not take these.
So, here's what I recommend:
- Lose the Termagants, replace them with Hormagaunts with Toxin Sacs.
- Replace the Scything Talons on your Warriors with Dual Boneswords. Replace the venom cannon with a barbed strangler (generally better value)
- Lose the Shrikes and Raveners.
- Lose the Prime. Get yourself a Tyrant with twin-linked devourers and a heavy venom cannon. When you play with him, stick him behind some Hive Guard as much as possible for cover.
I don't know what this comes to. If you have a spare 100 points, bolster your Hive Guard squads.
Thanks for the feedback. I like having the gants as objective holders, but I do see what your saying. If I do remove the shrikes and ravelers, what do you think about taking two screamer carnifexes or a trygon prime? I really want a list that can play all game types. Thanks!
Unfortunately, the only viable Fex build now is the Dropping Leechfex (2x TL Devourers and Bio-plasma in a Mycetic Spore - 250 points each).
The Trygon Prime could be a very valuable asset to your army. He's great as a distraction either foot-slogged to make use of his Synapse or Deep Struck.
It's really your choice.
Alright, that give's me some stuff to think on. Thanks for the advice!
Heavy Venom Cannon, Hive Commander, Armoured Shell
Hive Guard x2
Hive Guard x2
Zoanthropes x2 with Spore
Hormagaunts x30 (spit 15 and 15?)
Deathspitters, 1 Barbed Strangler
Dual Bone Swords
(I really want to keep these guys)
1500 point total
So let me know what you think. I like the idea of outflanking my hormaguants or maybe outflanking the shrikes. I don't know, I'm really just experimenting.

A few points that jump out at me - Shrikes can't outflank (not a troops choice so Hive commander doesn't work and cant scout/infiltrate normally) and with dual boneswords are one hell of a point sink for something so fragile. I would either look for 3, possibly 4 of these to minimise the loss when they do die, or simply giving the 5 rending claws. Less effective in assault, but the ability to take on tanks is nice and its cheaper too.
That tyrant would be far better served by having a tyrant guard than armoured shell. 2 extra wounds, cover tricks and more attacks up close are way way better than a 2+ save. Also I would go stranglethorn cannon over HVC. You lose some versatility but become a whole lot better at killing infantry. Your anti tank suffers, but to be honest HVC's are kinda poor for that anyway and tyrants are kinda expensive for one rather average shot.
The warriors want rending. It makes them a lot better in assault for little cost.
Id personally lose one of the stealer broods to get the points for 2 broods of 20 hormaguants. 15 is a little fragile and 30 is too much. Plus 2 broods of stealers gets a little bit redundant, especially at lower point levels such as this. Toxin sacs on said stealers are a very nice purchase too.
Looks good though, just a few tweaks to units and upgrades more than anything else.
Your friendly neighbourhood gargantuan creature
Okay, thanks for the tips, What do you think of outflanking a unit of hormagaunts? Or should I just run them up the field? Also, I have no Tyrant Guard and am trying to use the models I do have so I guess that's out for me. Thanks for pointing out the Hive Commander thing too, my bad.

Okay, I dropped 10 Genestealers and added 10 Hormagaunts, that leaves me with exactly 60 pts. for a Tyrant Guard! We'll see how she works!
Personally I've never used Shrikes (didnt like having to pay for wings and lose out on armour), but have you considered a flight of gargoyles to keep your shrikes in cover (at least giving them thier 4+ save back)? they are same cost as hormagaunts, can fly, and have cheaper upgrades too.
As for outflanking the Hormagaunts, I see you still have the HC upgrade, making reinforcements more reliable, and they can keep pace with the stealers if thats who they come on with. If you are keeping the upgrades on a big squad of 30, outflanking will turn them into pretty nasty critters, but dont forget all the while they are off the board, your opponent only has your more expensive units left to shoot at, since you have no other meat shield in there.
with 1 squad of 10 stealers and a squad of 20 horms outflanking, leaving you with 20 left to run up the field (perhaps consider leaving these ones naked to reduce the cost of thier death?) and 1 Ty guard you should be allright. again i've not fielded a list like this before, so much of it is speculation, but generally if you have a lot in reserve it puts a lot of pressure on those that start on the board.
PS> defo keep the tyrant guard, and if you find the original models (2001 i think) they come with a lash whip and a spineshield (not used anymore unfortunately but they look cool). They also look a bit less david and goliath next to the newer Hive Tyrants.
