    1000 pt, reintroduced to 40k - advice?

I have recently been reintroduced to 40k after 15+ years. I am trying to put together a simple, yet effective 1000 pt army for me to start collecting/painting/playing.

    Here it is:

    HQ - Warboss - 60 pts

    Troops -
    Ork Boyz x 20 - 120 pts
    Nobz x 10 - 200 pts

    Elite -
    Lootas x 15 - 225 pts

    Fast -
    Deffkoptas x 5 - 175 pts

    Heavy -
    Battlewagons w/ Deff Rollas x 2 - 220 pts

The reason I have chosen this is because I can go with two Core Systems (which saves a lot of money) for the majority of my units. I will also need 3 boxes of lootas and 2 battlewagons, making this a very affordable, yet effective, 1000 pt army. I chose not to use any wargear.

Comments? Advice? Anything I should do differently?

Hello and welcome to the site

Unfortunately, no wargear means your army will be chewed up and spat out. Power klaws are the be-all, end-all for orks. They give our squads a bite, anti MEQ, TEQ and tank, leaving them far more durable. You can convert your own from AoBR sets by using the ends off choppas, and a piece of sprue. Take one of your Nobz out of that squad, give him a klaw and stick him in with the boyz.

Then convert at least two more nobz to carry klaws, otherwise your heaviest hitting squad will struggle to make any sort of serious impact. Same with your warboss, he HAS to have a klaw. No buts

Lootas are great, but 15 is overkill, especially at this points level. Take between 7 to 10 and you'll be fine.

Deffkoptas work better with T.L Rokkits, which is what you're given in AoBR. I tend to run two individual koptas, but five can be deadly, if a points- sink.

I'm not sure what you mean by Deff rolla x 2? If you could clarify that would be great.

A final thing worth noting is that a Big Mek with K.F.F is our most valuable H.Q, and incredibally useful for nearly every type of ork list. I converted mine out of A nob, using spare gubbinz I had lying around, and it looks quite orky. That's an important thing to remember; more than any other army, you can convert so much with orks, saving yourself loads of money.

Hope some of this is useful to you, and once more welcome to the site WAAAAGH!

Or are you asking what I mean by x2? I mean I'm taking two battlewagons with deff rollas.

The idea with this build is to load the boyz, nobz and warboss up in the wagons and go about smashing things to pieces while the lootas stay in the background to provide some sustained fire and the deff koptas dash about blowing things up. When I've effectively smashed up their vehicles, I can unload and begin the cleanup/carnage.

I understand what it does, it's the x2 thing that's bothering me.

Lol, what you mean I can't have two deff rollas on each wagon? ;-)

    I kid.

    my apologies, I understand now

What I would do is drop five lootas, letting you upgrade your boy squad to include a nob w/b.p and klaw, and to give you warboss a P.K and cybork.

The nobz will also need two Klaws, which means dropping three more lootas, or 2 deffkoptas.
