Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi guys, i'm interested in starting a 40k army and i have to say i'm really liking the Dark Eldar army. I've played fantasy with Orcs and Goblins, but i've decided to branch into 40k.
I'm really just looking for any constructive criticism i can get on a quick 500pt army list that i made up, based mostly on the battleforce box.
BTW i will most likely be facing IG, Orks, and Space Wolves, as my friends will be starting their own armies too.
with Ghostskin Armour = 70
10x Kabalite Warriors
with Raider and Blaster = 160
with Hydra Gauntlets and Raider = 160
5x Reaver Jetbikes = 110
total = 500
I am a big fan of the Reaver Jetbike models, so i'd like to be fielding them in the future, but i have no idea how well they actually perform in game.
Basicly i'm hoping for a fast moving army that can keep one step ahead of the superior numbers of the ork mobs and IG squads, but since i've never played 40k before and am simply working off paper any advice is welcome.

Spambot kill tally. . .337
the jet bikes are good but dont realy work in 500 points so i would say drop them and upgread your other units
with the archon add on him the agoniser and shadowfield this will make him 120 points
i like to take a splinter cannon with the kabalites as well as the blaster which would make them 115 points
the wyches should all have grenades but you can only get 7 in the 500 pointsand hydra gauntlets are good but i find shardnets better as it helps you stay alive untill the nexed round, this will make them 148
the raiders should both have flicker fields and the one to transport the kabalites should have splinter racks, this will make them 150
Killing more enemy soldiers also helps you stay alive till the next round too. I would use hydra gauntless because they always give you the same effect. With shardnets you have to be really careful about assault positioning so you get them into base to base contact with the most problematic enemy. When you're just starting out you don't want that kind of headache. Same with flickerfields vs nightshields. You really need experience before nightshields pay off whereas flickerfields always give you the same bonus.

Thanks, playing with orcs and goblins in fantasy i always figured dealing more attacks was more important than worrying about what the enemy can return (ie extra choppa's), but i wasn't sure if that sacrificing of troops was a very good tactic to go with dark eldar. But with their initiative i'd hope that the wyche's could put a decent dent into an enemy unit before they can even plan a reaction.
Their 4+ invulnerable save and ability to easily gain "feel no pain" makes them really tough to kill. They'll happily buzzsaw their way through pretty much anything in close combat. For me, three squads of wyches is the real hammer of my army. I can't think of a CC unit I wouldn't take on with all three.

Well its safe to say i'm impressed with the wyche's stat's, and after reading and watching battle reports online its easy to see how effective they are on the table. But just about the HQ, if i field the succubus i get the 4+ invulnerable save, and i know that isn't nearly as good as a 2+ invulnerable that i could get with the fully kitted out archon, but the points could be saved for somewhere else? And what about the venom blade over the agoniser? 2+ poisoned attacks, and much cheaper? maybe im wrong, but it seems to be better?
The wyches hit reasonably hard but don't guarentee winning combat having a power weapon (agonizer) that will on average kill one space marine a round means you have a much higher chance of winning combat or at least tying it
yeah the power weapon rule really does look like a no brainer... if i had the charge on a unit though, with my grenades, it really doesn't look like that unit would have much of a chance against that many attacks? and with a decent combat drug roll it could only get even worse for the enemy..? but i can see that using kabalites to even the numbers in a unit and then charge with the wyche's, would make for an easier round of combat, and "feel no pain" bonuses easier to get... am i on the right tracks? considering in 500 points i wont have alot of units to play around with tactically?
Math on weapon choices:
on charge vs MEQ
venom blade 2 hit = 1.67 wounds = 0.55 dead marine
power weapon 2 hit = 0.66 dead marines
agonizer = 2 hit =1 dead marine
*agonizer is poison and power weapon makes for a great weapon plus against T3 you re-roll the to Wound
I would try to get the wyches grenades, an agonizer will be more effective then any wyche upgrade (flails, gauntlets etc)
At 500 pts i usually run:
haemonculus w/liquifier gun 60
9xwyches w/haywire grenades+hekatrix/agonizer 138
Raider w/ Flicker 70
5x Wracks 50
Raider w/Flicker 80
10x Warriors with splinter canon 100
