Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey all I have a grudge match against a space wolf player and I want to serve him some humble pie. I have been consistently winning with my wwp list and he says its all a fluke. I want to prove him wrong, so I come to hear the communities thoughts. Mind you the list is based around wwps so that is not going to change even the slightest. Without further ramblings, I present the list in question.
2 homns- wwps
The duke- blast pistol, shadow field, plasma grenades, ghostplate, combat drugs, the serpents bite
2x 4 trueborn- 4 blasters, venom w/ SC
9 bloodbrides- 3 S&I, Syren, power weapon
2x 15 wyches- 3 HGs, hekatrix, agoniser, raider w/ NS, SP
10 warriors- DL, raider w/ NS, SR
10 warriors- SC, raider w/ NS, SR
Ravager- 3 DL, NS
Ravager- 3 Dissie, NS
So this is the modified list I was planning on using. Albeit this is not the list I have been winning with. Here is that list.
2x Homns- wwp, hex rifles
Lady Malys- plasma grenades, Kabalite armor, steel fan, crystal heart, lady's blade
4 trueborn- 4 blasters, venom w/ SC
9 bloodbrides- 3 S&I, Syren, agoniser
3x 10 wyches- 2 HGs, hekatrix, agoniser, raider w/ NS, SP
9 wracks- liquifier, acothyst, raider w/ NS, SP
Ravager- 3 DLs, NS
2x talos- ccw, chain flails, TL haywire
So in both lists most, if not all,of the raiders are to be empty and deployed on the field. In the first list the homns are in the venoms with the blasterborn. The first turn they rush up and deploy the portals and hopefully take out a vehicle. While the raiders all sit back and fire at other vehicles from a distance they are also there to pick up any squads that come on the table edge to rush them forward. The duke starts the game with the SC warriors giving them better poisoned shots. Then first turn detaches and embarks on a separate raider to wait for the bloodbrides. When (I say when, not if) my darklances fail to do any more damage I will play a little lawn darts with the leftover raiders hopefully destroying any other vehicles left. The wyches flood from the portals and assault whatever they can. That is the basic plan but certain circumstances may alter said plan
So of the two lists which do you guys like more, and what is the best way to tweak them to beat down space puppies. All comments are welcome.
Thank you in advance
Just curious where the duke is going - I thought he would have to start with Trueborn or the Warriors and your Warriors are packed in (is there a squad of 9 somewhere?). This would put the Duke in with the Trueborn and would displace a Haemy. I also do not like the Trueborn as escorts, the wracks would be ideal and can even survive several turns of Long Fang attention if you placed them in cover well enough.
The second list would solve the above problem and would even put the Lady in with 8 Wracks and a Haemy in a raider. Not sure if your opponent loves Rune priests but to dangle a wrack squad that his priests can't touch would be fun (unfortunately that means the raider gets it).
As for tailoring the list, not my style. I think you should play what you normally play and not take anything that is going to work better against a specific enemy. However, if there is an understanding that both of you are making lists to counter each other then by all means.
I like the second list best.
"On a hunch, I melted them down and inhaled the fumes and read the dark eldar codex again, AND FOUND A BUNCH OF NEW RULES HIDDEN BEHIND THE OTHER WORDS..." [Gardeth on modelling & interpreting the DE Codex]
You sir are correct, the duke starts the game with the splinter warriors outside ( but in cover and within 2") of a transport then first turn he breaks off and the warriors embark on their raider and the duke climbs into another empty raider. As for the homns, I have had pretty good success with a squad of blasterborn. The two squads rush up 12" toward the nearest cover then everyone disembarks the trueborn shoot and the homn puts a portal in a good position. Then not only do the trueborn get cover but FNP to boot and the homn can absorb some ID wounds too.
I have gotten a couple games in with the first list one game against guard and the other GK. Some how I licked out and rolled spearhead for both battles making my NS just that much more effective. But the guard player gave me a good run for my money, it was pretty dismal till I started ramming his vehicles and blew up four of them giving my wyches something worthwhile to charge. I played against Draigo in the GK game and DL killed the most but my bloodbrides were the ones to eventually kill off the Draigo wing thank god for shardnets and the +1 str drugs. Even the duke got some blows in and killed off the last of Draigo's unit. And surprisingly Dreadnoughts die to ramming as well. All in all two good games.
As per the tailoring a list, my opponent very well might but my list is more of an allcomers list. I was just wondering how people think it will fare against wolves. If I were going to tailor it to anti-puppies I would have gone the venom spam route with a bunch of blasters three ravagers with Dissies then vect and with a unit of bloodbrides. But then that would go against the premise of a wwp list wrecking him. ;-)
I really appreciate your input though and I will play around with it some more. My game with him is next week so I have some time still.
