Welcome to Librarium Online!
I want to get some opinions on my list I threw together really quickly. Tomorrow i'm going to play a 1000 point game against my friend and this is my first time using the new necrons. I haven't played in many months so i'm trying to get back into it.
The models I currently have are:
1 necron lord
2 C'tans (the nightbringer and deceiver models)
1 Barge (catacomb or annihilation, so an extra lord here too)
1 box of unassembled lychguard/praetorians
I still need to get my hands on some new models like ghost arks and stuff, and i don't really want to model my own version of things like stalkers. I'd rather wait for them to actually come out. I'm trying not to go crazy with any proxies either, maybe use a lord as a cryptek or something, anyway...
This is my list against his imperial guard, we are playing for fun, but i still want to win.
Imohtek (225) (barge lord proxy)
harbinger of despair with veil and shroud (95) (4th edition lord proxy)
5 immortals with tesla (85)
7 warriors (91)
8 warriors (104
5 scarabs (75)
5 scarabs (75)
4 destroyers (160 )
annihilation barge (90 )
Total: 1000 exactly.
The plan is to use imohtek's night fighting and lightning attacks as long as i can, teleport the cryptek around the board with a group of warriors, move the scarabs in to take out any tanks, and flank with destoryers. the anni barge will be used to blast some holes in whatever i think is the biggest threat and maybe play tag with the destroyers. I think he will try to attack the destroyers because of how much he always used to go after them in the last edition.
I can't help but thinking i should downgrade imohtek to an overlord and increase my warrior count, or even just merge my two warriors into one group. 7 and 8 seems weird, but i figured two groups as evenly split as i could might be better than one big group shooting at one thing. I won't be going up against a tournament ready list by any means
I have no idea what he will be bringing, but i know he has at least 1 or 2 leman russ tanks, and i know he is in the same boat as me when it comes to models to choose from. He might have to bring his valkyrie just to get up to 1000 points. I'm not sure.
Anybody got some useful information for me? It's not the greatest of lists, but i think it will still be fun.

I've fought a 1000 points of Guard only once before, but I learned a few of things.
They will probably have lots of vehicles! My opponent had two Hydras, 1 Vendetta with a veteran squad and about 5-6 Chimeras loaded with infantry. Their shooting isn't spectacular, but they have lots of it! So even though half their shooting will miss and most of what hits won't stick (S3 AP- lol!), there's so much of it that they will still kill things. The multitude of medium and heavy weapons on all the vehicles is pretty potent as well.
With regards to your force, I think Imotekh is a good choice, even though he's a bit expensive for 1k points. But the night fighting rules will help you avoid some of his shooting in the early stages of the game. However, I would recommend taking a Cryptek with a Solar Pulse if you use Imotekh, as you might need to lift the night fighting at some point (if it's still going), so you can start using some of your firepower.
Keeping the Warriors in two groups is better than combining them, they're not likely to get assaulted much by guard so slightly smaller than usual squad sizes is okay. I probably wouldn't bother taking the Immortals if you only have 5 of them. Tesla only really works en mass, such as 8-10 Immortals all firing together, or 2-3 A-barges firing at the same thing. 5 shots isn't likely to net you a lot of the 6s you need to make Tesla work.
You definately need the Scarabs! So take all of them, just make sure they're out of line-of-sight of any blast weapons! As for the Destroyers, they're completely pointless against guard armies, as there's no 3+ armour save troops to shoot at! Either take them as 3-4 Heavy Destroyers instead (if he has Leman Russes and Valkyries, you will need the anti-tank firepower!) or drop them entirely. However, they are 60 points each and very easy to kill, so not particularly points efficient at the 1k level.
What you really need, is to take an Overlord on a Command Barge! You might want to take your barge as this instead of the Annihilation barge. I used one today against Chaos force containing 3 Rhinos and 2 Defilers. We only played 4 turns, but it immobilised and took the battle cannon off a Defiler with two sweep attack passes. But more than that, it took a lot of the battle cannon, autocannon and plasma gun fire that would otherwise have hit my other troops. And it was still fully operational by the end of the game! Between the Quantum Shielding, 4+ flat out cover save, Living Metal and Symbiotic Repair abilities, Command Barges are so resilient it's ridiculous!
"Peace, through superior firepower."
Good info. thanks.
