The anni barges seem fun and mean. I am not to sure about the HQ choice. I want to try Trazyn or Imotekh, but seems expensive for 500 point list. Crypteks seem fun too. I have not played yet, but have had many battles in fantasy. suggestions would be awesome. I would put a Cryptek in each unit, and the overlord in one of them.
I was also thinking of Trading the barges for a dooms day ark.
For 500 points, there's only so much you can do. You'll find your current list is actually pretty solid, mostly because of the strength that two annihilation barges brings. Most armies will have a lot of trouble dealing with two AV13 vehicles at such a low points level.
Were I to improve on your list, I would drop the res orb to take a solar pulse and a warscythe on your overlord. You'll be happy you modeled the overlord with a warscythe later on, as that's pretty much going to be the default loadout at higher points levels.
Expanding from here, you'll need more troops (obviously), and you won't be sad buying another barge for the command barge configuration.
Generally, I like to build my lists around the local standard game size (1500 points around here), and then cut it down into reasonable chunks so that I have a list at 500 and 1000 points that uses models from my 1500 point list.
If you have an idea on what sort of army list you'd like to build in the end, we can probably give better suggestions on where to grow from here.
I would suggest against the doomsday ark for a couple of reasons: first is that while they look promising, they really arn't. Where it is placed is where is stays unless you miss a turn of firing to move it, and if you do fire, most of the time your opponent will be able to claim a cover save, if not from your own troops in the way than terrain on the field. second, the barge is much better for the points. While it doesn't have a giant gun, it can open transports and gun down infintry faster than the ark, plus the 24" range puts it around the range most of the army is shooting so it is easier to plan around.
A ghost ark is nice to have. Loading one up with warriors and a cryptek makes a nice moving unit that can take objectives, and your opponent has to destroy the vehicle before he can kill the troops. If you have larger squads, the extra repairs can keep the squad alive and well for longer.
I agree with klajorne, take the pulse and a warscythe. The loss of a turn of shooting can save your vehicles in turn 1 since most antitank are long range (36"+) and will keep your troops alive, and warscythes are just plain nasty.
Are you doing one of those things where you start with 500pts and grow by another 500 every month?
Thanks for the advice guys. I see where you are coming from the the ark vrs barge. I will get one when I get a larger army. I am just starting at 500 points because I am in the process of building. I plan to grow very large eventually. The thing is I won't play with a model unless it is fully painted.
