Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was wondering, do you make your own shapers from a normal Carnivore set, or do you actually buy them in blisters?
Also, how do you make Master Shapers? Do you glue some stuff onto a normal bought Shaper, or do you convert alot?
Well for me it was half and half, although I really could have gotten away with not buying any shapers, but I had bought them prior to actually really going full blown into a kroot mercenary army.
A Shaper is 90% of the time going to be easily distinguished from the rest of his unit by the mere fact that he is the only one holding an eviscerator. So in my case I actually have a few leftover metal shapers that I've had to use regular plastic kroot arms on to hold eviscerators with.
Other shaper conversions, in my case, include plastic shapers armed with bolt pistole and chainswords (or power weapons for me). Again, these significantly enough stand out from the rest of your unit, and they are easy to make with plastic.
In the end, when playing kroot mercearies you'll find it a lot easier to convert the plastic shapers to hold their wargear than metal ones, so you'll want to use plastic shapers. After that, you feel kinda silly buying one unit for $10.
If you're good with Green stuff, there is definately no reason to buy metal shapers.
As for my master shaper, he's not the most stellar conversion, he was the first kroot merc model I made. He's a metal one holding the tau pulse rifle that I call a melta-gun until real conversion permits. He does have plastic wings I salvaged from another game that are significantly different from anything else. The fact that he runs alone will help him stand out even more. But still, I could have done a whole lot better with him, and maybe sometime this summer I will.
Edit: I actually just saw the model I may be using for my new master shaper.
Thats a lizardman skink priest that someone here painted up very nice. If all the parts in that picture are included, I may be buying that blister, chopping the head off to put a kroot one on, giving him wings and a melta-gun. Then I'll have an excellent stand out model with what can easily be called a kroothawk totem.
my shaper (i only have one unit of kroot) is made entierly out of plastic using bits frome varied sets. yes, he is the only one with an eviscerator, but I gave him plenty of extra goodies.
one easy conversion I suggest is the adding of extra hair. you're likely to have a few kroot heads left over, and by clipping a little (or all) of their hair and a bit of their scalp you can easily add on to the amount of hair a shaper has. this results in a bit of a mohawk effect. looks good... a kroothawk if you will
For my Kroot mercenary army I converted all my normal shapers from carnivore bitz, basically I gave him a whole lot of gear with a spare rifle strapped to his back. It saved me about $140 overall, but when it came to my master shaper I bought the metal model and converted the heck out of him so that he'd look very different from all the other run of the mill shapers in my army.
My master shaper is a platic kroot, with added ''forked hair'' from other kroot heads, and so is my vulture shaper, I wanted a more dinamic pose.
all the others are metal, as I use the Aun'shi blade arm as power weapons and give them a shouldpad to hide the incoerency of the arm going down, and it makes it great.
My evicerators are power fists with fingers cut off, and added to rifle blades to hit to give it the claw look, looks great on metal shapers.
Just a point to consider... don't give your Master Shaper an eviscerator.
Why? Because you pay 8 points more than a shaper council shaper for him to have I4 only to buy an eviscerator at 25pts which gives him I1 - costing you 33pts to drop his initiative by 3 :hmm: . Give your Master shaper a meltagun + a power weapon (tank and cc) and give the eviscerators to the squad shapers and/or to one or two shaper council members.
My shaper council #1 consist of 2x with eviscerators 1x meltagun + power weapon and 1x kroot rifle and kroothawk totem (the sacrificial chicken).
An eviscerator on a mastershaper as won me over, as the melta guns gets only 1 roll, and you have the be in charge range to get the additionnal d6. plus since he is an independent caracter, he can be picked out, and other caracters have I5 or better, might as well kill them outright if I get to fight back.
Plus, the 2D6 + Str AP is nice vs. vehicles, where the I1 doesn't matter. Don't you get multiple attacks for that, too?Originally posted by Wolf_Pack@Mar 6 2005, 21:22

No 2 handed weapon. but on a charge it's still 4 attacks, and on first turn your opponent did not get to move, well it's autohits!Originally posted by Lost Nemesis@Mar 6 2005, 21:23
