My local GW is running small 40k in 40 mins tournaments every now and then and I'm thinking of entering one soon with my Ultwhé force. Here is the beta-version of the list I plan to enter with:
15 Black Guardians
+ Heavy Weapon: Starcannon
+ Spirit Stone
+ Spirit Stone
+ Spirit Stone
I know that many people see spirit stones as an unneeded upgrade on vypers, but I like to use them anyway to add a little flavor to my army.
This list has 3 starcannons for opening power armor, a bunch of shuricats for killing light infantry, and the potential to blow up light/medium armor. What do you think of it?
First of all.....
Your a bad, bad man!
That much starcannon fire in 40min force is very nasty. Okay you like fluff but your sacrificing your guardians for your jetbikes, personally from both a fluff and effectiveness viewpoint, drop the stones for a warlock with conceal. At least then theres someone in charge and it looks like the seer has sent an apprentice to guide his warriors.
Course it's still a nasty army but you'll less often find your army consisting of 3 jetbikes and a bunch of dead guardians.
Their both good lists i just think with this tweak its a bit more effective and fluffy.
Technically you can't have a warlock as theres no farseer but i've never come across someone who objected at the idea of a leader like this. This is where i get flamed by people who disagree.
Nice touch with the EML as it can double as infantry suppression if necessary and the BL is no more effective due to AV restrictions.
Ask not a question of the eldar, for they will give you three answers all of which are true and horrifying to know.
Yeah, I am kind of bad Those starcannons will teach the 90% of the gamers in my area who play SM a lesson... or rather 9 lessons/round.
Yeah, I know that a warlock would extend the lifespan of my guardians a lot, but since this is some kind of tournament play, I better stick to the rules. I also agree that a padawan would have been great. I would have thrown in two squads of black guardians and the vyper with the EML, but since only the mandatory troop choices can be black, I dropped the idea. I hate to field regular guardians. I also wont boost the squad size anymore, because the squad is already 18 models strong, and more models would make it a pain to move around. So this is as fluffy as it gets, due th the rule restrictions.
That is a nice list, IMO. I play Iyanden, so, 40k in 40mins is really hard for me to do. 5 wraithguard = 175pts...and the only troops I get are that and a wraithlord. Theres noway I'll be mean enough to field wraithlords in that low points P. BTW, does anyone know where I can find the rules for 40k in 40mins? I've been looking around and can't seem to find them anywhere.
the thing bout sms is that not many of them will agree to play that list, I wouldn't :p
Maybe add more black guardians? I just can't get enough of those guys
"Heresy is like a garden weed, it won't stop feeding until you... BURN THE WHOLE DAMN GARDEN WITH A FLAMER, BURN IT, BURN IT TO HELL!!!!!" "Is there a wittle puppy in the garden? ITS A DAEMON! BURN IT!"
Please note that there is a specific format for titles in the army list forum. I have edited your thread to comply. Please be sure to read the sticky named "Read this before posting" at the top of this forum before posting any more threads.
[point value] Army - any other info
Just a reminder that there is a specific way to format titles. We do this so that the search function works and it is important that everyone follow the same format. Some examples:
 Tau - For tounrnament play
 Chaos - Khorne Combat patrol
 Space Marines - Space Wolves
Eldar - My first Ulthwe list
Space Marines - I need help with my Raven Guard
 Daemonhunters - Puritan
As you can see, the point value comes first in square brackets, with no letters or special characters in the brackets. Next comes the army name. Not the sub-army such as a specific chapter or craftworld, but what overall army you are playing. Last, after the all important hyphon is where you say what chapter and any other things you would say about your list.
Just a reminder,
Mentor of Space Marine Commanders far and wide.
Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
i dunno very fragile. if i played marines and had a decent amount of heavies those vypers would be eatin ground. as far as i know a heavy bolter is 5 pts for marines so a squad of 5 with heavy bolter would only be 80pts. thats quit a few squads very effective at killing/crippling vypers. and after you lose those da guardians aren't going to fair to well.
i would go somtin like this, keep in mind i don't have the 40k in 40 min rules:
vyper, starcannon, spirit stones-cause you likem
10 black guardians, starcannon
10 black guardians
this is some over 400 but is a general idea. gives you more suvivability, less heavies but should still keep a marine shaking in his power boots, you do lose some anti armor but make up with it by the WL but you have to be in cc. this is only if you are willing to use a WL in 400 points, if you will use it dont feel to bad. i saw a list with 3 WL in 750.
When you combine Speed and Power you get Lightning.
First off, it would be COMPLETELY Unsportsmanlike to use a wraithlord of ANY KIND in such a low point cost game. Noone will have anything to deal with it, asides maybe one or two power weapons. Its quite cheap. Other than that it all looked ok.
No, you dont know the rules I see. First, I can have no W3+ models, which means that I cant have a wraithlord or a farseer, and DEFINATELY no council, since warlocks are not even allowed without farseers. Second, I only have one mandatory troop slot, which means that I can only field one unit of black guardians.Originally Posted by LightningGus 3
And yeah, heavy bolters are a pain, but again the enemy will only have one per tact squad, or pay seven times the cost of the weapon to equip a dev squad with them, which means that he cannot field that many anyway.
And since its essentially a tournament, people will HAVE to play against this list Seriously, why wouldnt people play this list? Its even fluffy for a light recon patrol. Unfair matches in 400 point games is when IGs pull out 100 conscripts... kill THAT in 6 rounds
