I tried to against the Tau for the honor of the Ctan and got humilated for it . The rail rifles on the broadside and the hammerhead are the biggest pain in the neck. The only happy point is using the Pariahs to carve the broadsides but they have a minor drawback they are not necrons and thus do not follow the "we will be back rule". I tried using scarabs but I think Tomb spyders are much better in CC than them
Post your list and his list and people will tell whats wrong and how to beat them. Tau should be easy for necrons as they dont pack many str 8< weapons. Yes they do have railguns/railrifles but these are one shot weapons.
The Necrons can be extremely fast if you want them to be, meaning you can get in nice and close to the Tau, which is the last place they want you to be.
Wraiths, Scarabs and deep-striking Flayed Ones are muder on the Tau, who have, IIRC, one power weapon in the whole list. A close-combat Destroyer Lord will get in quickly and destroy any Crisis Suits.
The Necrons, while usually played shooty, are not pushovers in close-combat by any stretch, and are downright scary compared to the Tau.

veil of darkness is your freind here, get a lord with VOD with an immortal squad and u can kill those pesky firewarriors quick. big stuff like ctans and monilith do poorly against tau as tau have excellent firepower and everyrthing will have los to them.
