You already have a Shield gen so why bother with the drone, Drones also screw you with the mixed armour and majority rules, dump them please. Use the points saved to get an extra Stealth and make two full strength units.
Also I would make one of the XV8's a Shas'El and use the remaining XV8 as a lone suit, the Shas'El is not that much more expensive (the points saved by dumping the Shield drones will help) he gets better BS and IC status.
I would advise making the two 6 man FW squads into one 12 man squad, they will be less prone to morale tests from shooting casualties, you could do with another unit really to make 3 FW reams.
Depending on which list type you prefer (Mech or Hybrid forget static) which units to add next is a bit tricky to advise on (not knowing your preference).
Kroot would be a good choice, a unit of 20 offers good firepower and good counter assault capabilities and they are cheap points wise, this would be my 1st choice, then get another unit of Fire Warriors.
Hammerhead, always a good solid choice, the best tank in the game give it a railgun and multi and decoys, use it to cut down lightly armoured infantry (let the broadsides kill the armour).
Devilfish get another one and give both FW the benefit of all that fast armoured protection.
Hammerhead as above.
Kroot maybe some dont think they fit Mech, me I think they are to valuable a unit I would make em fit.
If I were you I would go hybrid get the Kroot then the Hammerhead, get the extra FW, give one unit a DF and you have a good firebase with plenty of mobility with the DF and HH, the two commanders and the lone XV8 will be hard hitting and two Stealth units will do good work, you will have a nice solid list.
By the way how do you use the drone squad?.
Wait, are Mech and Hybrid the only ways to play a Tau list? Or just the only ones that work?
I hope people are having fun.
There are 3 accepted variants for TauOriginally Posted by RedFang
Hybrid: Usually a strong firebase of non transported (i/e Devil Fish) troops, with a strong mobile element of XV8, XV15 and sometimes XV88 suits along with Hammerheads.
Benefits = usually have a large amount of firepower along with a strong mobile element.
Disadvantages = Troops are vulnerable to good shooting / asault units.
Mech: as it sounds all FW troops in Devil fish and the rest of the army can usually move 12", though some players include Kroot.
Advantages = very fast and can be hard to kill very good at taking objectives and victory points.
Disadvantages: limits the amount of firepower available, large points sink in transports.
Static = again self explanatory, large troop base, usually Broadsides included, all the units tend to be stationary even Hammerheads, XV15 tend to stay back and take long range weaponry.
Advantages = can field a massive amount of firepower.
Disadvantages = Troops are very vulnerable, very hard to take objectives and can be outmanouvered vey easily by fast armies, very vulnerable to assualt armies as all the models tend to be set up close together (very much like imperial guard).
Thats a very basic quick description of the 3 main list types, though obviously elemnts can be taken from each.
thanks for the help i did include the HW drone controller i just for go to post it up im think that im going to fallow your advice and lose the drones they are like a 70pts sink in mt list.
im planing on going all mech soon just dont have the mony to buy all thoughs tanks and transports right now
to answer yor questions on how i use the gun drones are is that i place them as far up as i can and i bull rush him with them and a squad of 6 fire warriors behind it. i did this against my friend and he had no clue what to do and it worked for like 2 turns they lasted running and shooting then i charged his squad of stealers and threw some real luck i manged to tie his squad of 16 stealers for 3 turns be for they ran but thats all that matter. they even took out 4 which paid there points back and i was happy.
