    [1500] Ulthwe - any good?

    Okay, I'm new to warhammer. I started together with a couple of friends and they are far further into their army (one is almost done, the other is halway there) and I'm still strugling with the list. I'm not really loaded with money so I don't want to buy stuff I don't need (right now).

    This is the list I worked on for a little while, plz tell me if it's any good. It doesn't have to be the best ever but able to beat other average asmies. It's made for 1500 points.

    HQ

    1 farseer with:
    Rune Armor; Runes of Witnessing Witch Blade ; Shuriken Pistol ;
    Psychic powers: Fortune

    2 Warlocks with:
    Rune Armor; Witch Blade ; Shuriken Pistol;
    Psychic Powers: Enhance

    3 warlocks with:
    Rune Armor; Witch Blade ; Shuriken Pistol;
    Psychic Powers: Destructor

    TOTAL=291

    They go in a FALCON with a Starcannon

    TOTAL=155

    ELITE

    9 Howling banshees and 1 howling Banshee exarch with powerblades

    TOTAL=181

    They go into a wave serpent with Twin-linked brightlances

    TOTAL=125

    TROOPS

    5 guardian defenders with a starcannon with crew

    TOTAL=90

    10 rangers

    TOTAL=190

    FAST ATTACK

    1 viper with starcannon

    TOTAL=65

    1 viper with starcannon

    TOTAL=65

    1 viper with brightlance

    TOTAL=65

    HEAVY SUPPORT

    4 dark reapers

    TOTAL=148

    1 wraithlord with a brightlance

    TOTAL=120

    (and the falcon from the HQ as a third heavy support slot)

    ARMYLIST TOTAL=1494

    I tried to put the brightlances which shoot only once on the stuff that shoots better (BS or Twin-linked).
    I thought this list would be nice because it has A LOT of shooting power but with two very potent close combat squads.
    It should be pretty fast, but as it's an eldar list, how could it not?
    The HQ is pretty points heavy but as they should be in combat a lot and therefore not being shot at to much, combined with the fortune power and their invulnerable save, they should be ok.

    Tell me what you think and what is totaly useless or really needs to be added.

    The Morbidos Fleet will reclaim the Eldar empire. This time there shall be no mercy. Let them choke in their own blood!

    Please edit out the individual points costs for each item! It's against forum rules (copyright issues) and could get LO in trouble with GW. Total points costs are okay.

    Points cost and title are amended, shady god, please take note for the future.

    Your list:

    HQ: destructor is a little iffy, you are likely to wipe out your opponent, five the falcon spirit stones and holofield, otherwise it is a sitting duck

    ELITES: Banshees operate best if their exarch had an excutioner, far more effective against goons in powered armour, give their serpent spirit stones

    TROOPS: try and squeeze a couple more guardians into the squad

    10 scouts is way too big for a single unit, split it in too (personnaly I would get rid of 5 period and take another guardian squad)

    Otherwise try and avoid the BL on the vyper, and you are way low on troops, which usually means you sould be better playing a craftworld
    Everything you have been told is a lie!

    That list is illegal, you need at least 2 Farseers in your Seer Council.

    I recommend that you redo the Council entirely, this is how it should look IMO:

    Farseer: Witchblade, Pistol, Runes of Witnessing, Ghosthelm, Fortune.
    Farseer: Witchblade, Pistol, Runes of Witnessing, Ghosthelm, Guide, Mind War
    Warlock: Close combat weapon, Pistol, Runes of Witnessing, Augment
    Warlock: Close combat weapon, Pistol, Enhance
    Warlock: Close combat weapon, Pistol, Embolden
    Warlock: Close combat weapon, Pistol, Destructor

    Total: 299 pts

    Now you can use it as a flexible support unit as well as carry it in the Falcon for assaulting.

    Fair enough, but I would recommend that you swap these for a squad of 10 Warp Spiders. They are fast as well, but more useful against the vast majority of foes. If you intend to keep the Banshees anyway, give the Exarch an Executioner and the Serpent the Spirit Stones upgrade.

    An Ulthwé army with a total of 7 Guardians? Such a shame. You should drop the Rangers, add 2 Guardians to your current squad as well as a Warlock with close combat weapon, pistol and Conceal, change the Star Cannon for Bright Lance then copy this squad and call them both Black Guardians. These squads are useful for moving around the battlefield while taking out tanks at a distance or light infantry up close, great for claiming objectives and rather tough.

    As Cheredanine said, you should change the Bright lance for a multi-shot weapon. Either another Star cannon, or two Shuriken cannons. (Vyper + Shuriken Cannon upgrade = 2 Shuriken Cannons, since you get the first "free")

    I'd recommend you to drop the Dark Reapers, they are very fragile and costy for what they do and you have a lot of anti-marine power already. I'd recommend that you buy a D-cannon instead, for some cheap defensive firepower.

    Wraithlord is fine. It's good for keeping enemies away from your Guardians.

    The Falcon needs some upgrades to be effective, you should give it Spirit Stones and Holo-field in order to make it extremely survivable (as already pointed out).

    Now, how many points do you have left?

    Not Ulthwe

    Ehm, Thank You all for posting so many improvements. But I'dd like to point out this isn't an Ulthwe list. Cheredanine has altered my post so that it isn't illegal anymore which I thank him/her for, but he/she has also changed the name into Ulthwe. This was not intended. But after hearing you all I try and see I don't want to change it into Ulhtwe anyways. IS there a way to edit the name again?

    Oh, that's strange. But then, this list would be better off as an Ulthwé list anyway so why not? An additional Farseer is great when you have a size limitation on the squad (If you want it in the Falcon), and then you get better BS on two of your Guardian squads.

    OK, srry it took so long but i've been very busy. I tried to incorporate some of the ideas that you gave me and I turned it Ulthwe. I had 106 points to spare and at first I couldn't decide what to use it for but in the end I chose fire dragons. I did this because they are decently fast with their fleet of foot, shoot powerfully at both troops as tanks. And they still don't die to fast. It's a nice troop that will serve me well later in the game when most big targets on both sides have been taken out and they have reached their designation.

    Those Fire Dragons will probably never make it to the enemy, and will more probably be of little use there. You should take those points and beef up your Guardian squads instead, which gives you a solid core of an army instead of just two bright lance platforms. Don't underestimate their potential, and also, you should spend more points on troops anyway.

    Just a note, you don't have to write every piece of equipment each unit has, that is just harder to read. Most units have standard equipment and rules they can't change anyway.

    "•Viper Jetbike with:
    Fast; Skimmer; Open Topped; Twin Shuriken Catapult; Starcanon"

    This could be:

    "Vyper; Star cannon 65 pts"

    A lot easier to read, we all know they're fast open-topped skimmers and that they come with a TL shuriken catapult. Just write the upgrades or specific choices that aren't included from the start, like Plasma grenades for example.

    well you could do worse than getting a support weapon as they are effective and very fluffy for ulthwe. i would suggest a shadow weaver as it has an impressive range and is dirt cheap. However you may also find a use for a D-cannon. an avatar could also be useful if you want more assault. of course you could also just get more guardians or a squad of aspect warriors. a squad of scorpions would go well used with the banshees (although you would have to remove some of your other stuff to get the points for this).
    as an aside i might be reading your list wrong but it looks like you have two warlocks with enhance in your seer council. this is pointless as you cannot add +2 to your WS and I for this. having one with augment would help your farseer with mind war kill more at the start of the game. keep the other enhance though as this will work well with your witchblades. while on the subject of witchblades i personally would not have them for every warlock in the council. although the seer council is very resilient to shooting some shoots will get through. better to take these on warlocks with combat weapons and shuriken pistols than those with witchblades. other than that the army list is looking pretty good.
