Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am in a league and will be playing a Tau player. Here is what he commonly uses
2 Hammerheads RG and Seekers (and the -4 to ranged shots thing
2 Broadsides with RG
HQ crisis suits with plasma guns and missles
4 squads of Firewarriors - about 10 each
1 fish of fury with devilfish and pathfinders
1 squad of infiltrating kroot
Here is my planned list
Farseer - Fortune and WB
9 Scorps - Exarch with power claw
All riding in Wave Serpent with TL Missle Launchers
6 Firedragons (in Falcon)
6 Swooping Hawks with Exarch - Web of skulls and Sustained Assault
4 Reapers including Exarch (with EML and Fast Shot)
2 Hvy weapons support
1 Shreiker Bike
Still formulating a plan. One problem is that we are doing secret missions that we won't know what they are until we show up. You roll a die and that is the mission that only you know about and will get extra VP's to win. Last time i got start behind enemy lines. One of my troop squads had to start in his deployment zone and get back to my deployment zone. It was fun.
Is this a good list against Tau?
Thanks, love any ideas.
I think speed is the key when fighting Tau. This can take the form of wave serpants, jetbike, mobile tanks or jumping squads. This way you can duck inbetween cover avoiding being shot as well as pacing yourself for close range engagment. Due to the railguns I don't think using lightly armoured infantry is the best of all idea due to the big blasts Ap4.
With two railguns to deal with I doubt having a slow pacing wraithlord is a good idea. Also I dont like transporting fire dragons in a falcon. It would involve placing the falcon infront of guns which it could do without. Falcon is long range and firedragons are short.....the two roles don't compliment each other.
Consider using more Waveserpants with twin-linked brightlances to knock down the hammerheads.....Placing gaurdians inside would also mean you get them close enough to use the assault 2 weapons against the fire warriors. Putting small squads of firedragons in these also means you can get them into range and garentee a destroyed tank.
putting dragons in flacons isn't worst than in serpents mate. plus if you only have 6 (which is enough) the falcon is excellent. equip it right, and it can take on a huge betting. plus since you do need to get up close, the falcon with have a much greater guarantee at getting your cargo to the destination of the serpent.
but like Heiromyo said, your fighting a mobile Tau, so you need to stay mobile as well. CC is the Tau's weakness, so don't go into long range shoot-outs and hope to accomplish anything successfully.
you might want to buff your spiders to 8, so you shoot and cc the following turn since they will be better than tau. i'm not too keen on the reapers as i can't see them making a good ROI vs mobile Tau unless lucky enough to take down a vehicle. You might want to throw in that vyper with either sc or a scatter laser not too be too cheesy.. up to you.
the vyper would be a nice addition to your mobility, just keep it cheap since you have to expect to lose it. better if you had 2 though.
the WL: make a nice plat form for you BL.. but if he's smart, he'll keep his vehicles out of LOS which isn't too hard with decent terain vs a 6" walker.
in the end though, troops win the day for you. so for future, try to finish your second scorpian squad. you could make a storm guardian squad: 5 with 2 flamers, 1 warlock with destructor and ccw and place in your falcon. always maximise every unit's capabilities, and this addition only come in at 74 points! with 2+1 Heavy flamer you should be able to make your ROI and more. burn, then assault
since your are playing tau this maybe good time perhaps the only time you can assult with your spiders you may want to consider a exarch with surpirise assult i mean 8 spidrs charging is 24 attacks that hit on 3+ and wound on 3+ can really kill some fire warriors
Thanks for the responses guys.
I have gone through and made it so that I can have 8 warp spiders. I will most likely play him tonight and see how it goes.
Unless you know how you are going to use them, I'd suggest dropping the Reapers. With all the AP 4 flying around, your reapers really won't be given a chance and also against that type of army you might as well sell the reapers their last rights, since they won't be able to reposition quickly enough. If you have trouble taking down those Crisis suits get some starcannons on Vypers.
