Hi all... haven't played for sometime... and now I want to make a medium sized army... kind of a elite infiltrating pre-invasion army. I want to ban from the following units from this list to keep up the fluff: tyrants, fexes, gaunts, biovores.
Hive Fleet Tiamat 1500pts.txt
Broods: 1 brood of 6 stealers.
Cost: 6 * 20 = 120pts
Biomorphs: TSacs, ExCarapace, EnhSen, AG(I).
Bioweapons: TL Deourers
Broods: 1 brood of 3 warriors.
Costs: 3 * 41 = 123pts
Broods: 1 brood of 3 Lictors.
Costs: 3 * 80 = 240pts
Broods: 2 broods of 5 swarms in each.
Costs: 10 * 14 = 140pts
Broods: 3 broods of 8 genestealers in each.
Costs: 24 * 20 = 480pts
Bioweapons: STalons, RClaws.
Broods: 3 broods of 1 Ravenger in each.
Costs: 3 * 40 = 120pts
Psykicpowers: Synapse, WBlast, WField.
Broods: 3 Zoathropes
Costs: 3 * 65 = 195pts
Total Cost: 1498pts
Stealers, broodlord and lictors are l33t and sneaky, so they obious fit in. I think ravengers are sneaky as well (pre burrow aka zerg style) and fast so I think they fit in rather well too. I included a brood of warriors to act as the hive-minds eyes and ears... they'll report to the hivemind through synapse (kind of like the same role as inquisitors have)... I chose them to be shootly cause this list lack ranged attacks badly. The rippers have a kind of a "leave no traces" purpose... they eat whatever the others kills so there will be no corpses for the enemy to find. The Zoanthropes are there mostly for anti-tank with their WB... I don't have a good fluff for them... but psychic is kinda l33t so the thropes can tag along this list ...
so what do you guys (and maybe girls?) think? critics?
Fluffwise, rippers are one of the last of the Tyranid creatures to show up. Gaunt genus would be viable for the precursor army you're wanting, but you might consider taking broods of Spike Rifle gaunts (sniper gaunts), which would fit into the elite, sneaky theme of the army.Originally Posted by zhaf
I'm also not fond of twin-linking weapons for the Tyranids, the reroll doesn't quite justify the cost in my mind, so you might consider devourers / rending claws on your warrior brood, or perhaps even venom cannon / deathspitter combo for some longer ranged power. If you find twin-linked devourers effective, however, I say go for it.
Final tip... beware hellhounds, immolators, or other "flamethrower" tanks.
are those weapons still legal?... I thought that they're unplayable after the update to 4th ed cause it states that they're "weapon mutants" and mutants don't exsist in 4th ed.Originally Posted by PoptartsNinja
but anyway... I haven't tested out twin linked shootly warriors before so I'd thought give it a try. But yeah I know tyranid twin link isn't very costefficient compared to other races. I'll try your tips after I've tried out the twin devs. If the spikerifle is still legal I'll try that out too... thanks for the tip... But I gotta say my ripper purpose was cool
The rules are old, but not necessarily invalid. They still show the chapter approved seal, after all. You can't take them as mutants, of course, but dedicated Impaler broods and Strangler broods still seem legal.
