So theres a local tournament coming up this saturday, guess ill be playing against any army, dont know what to expect. Anyways, heres the list ive come up with i want to take.
Rules of tourney:
2 troop choices
HQ cannot be over 200 pts
As of right now here is what i have:
Winged HT - 2x ST's, Warp Field, TS, AG, AG - 197
3 Shooty Warriors - 2 Deathspitters, 1 VC, EC, BS, TS i think - 118
Lictor - 80
Zoanthrope - Synapse and Warp Blast - 65
This gives me 290 points to work with for troops. Some ideas
10 Spinegaunts - 50
8 spine - 40
8 hormagaunts - 80
6 Genestealers + EC - 120
However i thought 8 hormies alone wouldnt do well, so i thought
8 genestealers - 140
or 2 squads of spines of 13.
WEll what do you all think? I know im going to have to be aggressive, as well be rolling for scenarios. I also have raveners, cc warriors, hormagaunts, zoanthropes, a carnifex, and other stuff to work with.
so, should i mix some stuff up or suggestions? I could be playing any army, but i was think spinegaunts go in providing fire and getting units into cc, HT wrecks house, warriors and zoan shoots to provide cover and synapse, and then genestealers go in and clean house.
Solid Hive Tyrant, very effective.Originally Posted by rebmonkThey'll be more expensive than that once you make them a legal brood. Warriors must take two weapon symbiotes, so you need to buy them all scything talons or Rending Claws (go with Rending Claws, it'll make CC-focused enemies think twice about charging them). You are only allowed one "heavy" weapon (BS / VC) per brood.Originally Posted by rebmonkGood.Originally Posted by rebmonkAlso good. I'd almost suggest dropping your warrior brood for two more of these guys. Even though they're slow, they're very durable synapse for a small-point game (and taking at least two means you'll average one hit with the powered warp blast per turn).Originally Posted by rebmonk
This gives me 290 points to work with for troops. Some ideasI wouldn't take hormagaunts when points are on the line. I actually suggest spineripper broods (Ripper Swarm w/ Leaping, Enhanced Senses, Toxin Sacs, Extended Carapace, and Spinefists 21 points / model). They cost only 7 points per wound (less than Hormagaunts), and get 7 attacks on a charge (3 shooting, 3 for being rippers, 1 for the charge) and at 750 points you're not likely to see a lot of blast templates so they'll be reasonably safe. The only downside is they're a little slower than normal gaunts, and they don't benefit from instant-kill protection.Originally Posted by rebmonk
However...I like this setup, although I'd drop some spinegaunts to get Extended Carapace for those genestealers. The size-8 broods means that your opponant will have to divide his fire between them (or overkill them completely), but you should still try to keep them reasonably together (to help with synapse coverage, and force him to move his troops to get an angle on you).Originally Posted by rebmonk
Looks like you've got some solid ideas already, I don't think you'll be needing a Carnifex, but it may prove advantageous to take a Dakka Tyrant (2x twin linked devourers, wings, enhanced senses, toxin sacs, and any CC biomorphs you can afford under 200 points) to handle light skimmers... a trio of Zoanthropes should prove more than adequate to deal with enemy tanks (and MEQ squads), especially if you advance them carefully and deny your opponant a chance to double-blind you with them.
Beware hellhound tanks, however.
