Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi, I'm thinking of hiring some Kroot Mercenaries to bolster my Craftworld forces. I want an infiltrating unit, that stands a decent chance of reaching combat, so I can safely land Howling Banshees behind the combat, to help the kroot next turn. I think S4 attacks plus Power Weapon attacks would be a good combo. (I hate the stupid bunny scorpion models and Kroot make a pretty cool substitute).
I was thinking 2 kroot hound squads with hyperactive nimunes (you know what I mean), would they be up to the job?
I think a dying race could see the advantages of mercinaries, especially ones adapted to life on those non-manufactured worlds my eldar have to fight on, and the Kroot would be free to eat who they like. I'm sure a Pychic Farseer could make an offer a mildly Pychic Master Shaper would aprove of, so it works fluff-wise too.
Might be a small step towards a Mercenary force, any tips/pointers would be great guys...
I would use either a shaper council with wings or vultures. this will give 1 turn assault.
thanks for the advice but I didnt want to pick something that Elite. It would feel like I'm trying to be Cheesy. I guess I looking for general pointers on how to use Kroot carnivors, hounds, hunters maybe...
Even if you don't take things with wings, you can still ge 1st turn assault. Just hide a Carnivore/Kroot Hound squad with Hyperactive Nymune Organ and a tooled Shaper 6" into a forest, and 12" away from the enemy. Move 6", Fleet 1-6", Charge 6" for a combined move of 13-18".

Yes hound squads can get first turn assault about 75% of the time, if not better. Trust me, I've done the math multiple times.
First, the shaper needs two things: Blood of the stalker and surefoot charm. Then give the squad hyper nymune organs. this gives them rerolled fof, plus d6" closer infiltrating. So you just need to score above 6 on 2d6, one of which gets a reroll. since 7 is the average roll on a regular non rerolled 2d6, the odds are in your favor.
I would say hounds are you best best because of the I4 hounds, as you can't get an adaptaion for kroot used as mercs for others. And get more hounds than kroot, I find that a 15 hound 10 kroot squad works nice, then just start adding more models till it gets maxed at 40 models .
Hope this helps ya.
