Hi Guys, getting back into WH40k and wanted you guys to give me advice on this 1500pt list. I havent had much experience so for now i want a pretty all-round army that i can adapt to my play style / enemies later once I've had more experience. Basically im looking for a 'tourny army' i guess, something thats all-rounded.
Lord - Res Orb, Veil of Darkness - 200pts
7 x Immortals - 196pts
12 x Warriors - 216pts
12 x Warriors - 216pts
12 x Warriors - 216pts
6 x Scarabs - 72pts
3 x Destroyers - 150pts
1 x Monolith - 235pts
Total: - 1501pts
Phase out: 12

ok nice first list. But I would, based on the advice of an uber-player at my local store, suggest the following:Originally Posted by Evil_Exodus

My reasoning is as follows: Warriors are good but no more than thirty are ever needed, and seeing as you'll have 16 Immortals too, you're fine on the Necron count. Dropping the VoD on the Lord will limit mobility, but to be honest, 24" range on the Immortals is good enough. Plonk each squad right behind a squad of Warriors and sit the Lord right behind them all in the middle so all can gain from the Orb. That way, you got a solid firebase that cannot be Insta-killed. Maxing out your Destroyers can never be a bad thing. Wasn't sure what the scarabs were doing. Your Warriors will act as a much better meat shield. I'd only ever include scaracs if they have D-fields and are tank hunting.
Then just gauss everything to death.

I Kinda agree, But scarabs can have other uses they can be used to tie up heavy assaulters that could destroy your warriors in just a couple turns, such as Khorne berserkers or can be used to tie up heavy weapons squads.
I think it would do more good to just keep them in the list.

I've played my friends SM army twice now with this list and lost both times. The first time i play i dropped the veil for 2 more scarabs and gave them all D-fields (mighta dropped a warrior or something to make the points) and they took out his vindicator and land speeder so they did good. I lost my monolith in his first turn to a lucky shot and a bad roll from me. In the end i lost.
Second game i swapped out 12 warrior for 10 flayed ones and they did good, killing his assault squad and almost his entire tactical squad before dying. In the end he got a lucky vindicator shot and took out most of my warriors coz i had teleported them with monolith out of CC with termies the turn before. This caused me to Phase Out.
I'm not sure what to do, i dont have much experience so next time i will run the second list but with a VoD and try the 'flying circus' tactic and see how i go ... Any other advice people?
Anyone able to give me some suggestions on what to do or what to change in the list? I'm very inexperienced and I've only played my friends SM army. Don't really wanna take it to the store and play other people when I dont even come close to beating my friend (he has played on and off for 4-5yrs but he is no veteran)/
WEll, is ther anyt specific unit you are having trouble with? Termies, tanks, Assault Sqauds? Give us some info, and we'll be happy to help.

Im not sure really. He had his HQ and a librarian or chaplain both with 5 termies, so that was a pretty scary squad. I was able to shoot at them for 2 rounds with my destroyers, so by the time he got into combat there was only 1 termy, the HQ and the librarian/chaplain (cant remember which). I knew they were bad so i tried to kill them early. Umm my Flayed Ones took care of an Assault squad and tactical squad. I think by the time i phased out the second game, he still had his vindicator (big problem but nothing i could do about it), his squad of 5 marines with the big guns that killed my 'lith the first game werent touched at all in both the games. And i think he also had another tactical squad.
I think my problem was that i played too defensively and didnt use my VoD to take out the Devastator squad(?), tactical squad and vindicator all early in the game seems they were near each other.
