Hi guys, I'm thinking of (maybe) getting some gargoyles, seeing as they get to shoot, bioplasma and attack in one round, and at the same time is VERY fast. I was thinking of what to use them with in a fairly low-point game (still a newbie btw).
The main thing in this army is speed and lots of annoying shooty things (which are also fast) followed by a big scary bulk of... shooty things ;D
1 Tyrant, wings + 2xTW devourers
2 dakkafexes (2xTW devourers)
150p) - requires synapse
2x 7/8 rippers
1 2xraveners (rending & devourer)
The basic idea:
HQ: Harrass the enemy whilst flying from and to cover.
Elite: Get into range with the dakkafexes and shoot.
Troops: Use the hormies & rippers (or just rippers) to fill out troop slots & maybe(?) get into CC.
Fast attack: Flank the enemy with the gargoyles. Use raveners to shoot from cover / attack when the time is right
Slow 'fexes and possible changes?
I realize that the 'fexes & rippers are slow things in a otherwise fast assault army, but if the 'fexes draws fire from raveners&gargoyles they might be worth their points - though exchanging them for hormagaunts & ranged warriors (=speed) would be a good idea too
Another possible switch is to add some stealers (EC & scuttlers) to be able to actually hurt things in CC.
EDIT:I Could also exchange a dakkafex for a gunfex. I think this might help my army - though some rippers/gaunts/??? would have to go...
(I'd love to hear what you think of the different options)
I do not have much that can harm tanks etc, but I happen to know my main opponents (one marine- & one ork-player) do not have loads of tanks to put on the table - at least the SM one...
Terminators might be a problem if I do not use stealers, I'm not really sure if the 'fexes are up to the task without taking a serious pounding...

I fiddled with the points and made another - even faster - list
(doublepost due to the fact that the previous post already was a bit big)
2x tyrant ,winged, ES, 2x TW devourers
1x 4rippers, leaping
1x 8stealers, EC, scuttlers
What can I say? A fast list with barely no tank-busting capabilities... (and no synapse if the tyrants arn't in range - for good or bad)
You cant field 2 flying Tyrants, see the * after the Winged biomorp on p. 35. and even if you could have two, their points cost would be 282pts :p
So, you need to drop one Tyrant, and on that note, I'd recommend giving the remaining one Toxin sacs, with so much T4 out there, S5 shots will come in handy.
Since you're low on numbers (which tend to be crucial for nids) I'd drop the genestealers and rippers in favour of some hormagaunts, not adding in the pts from the second tyrant, you can field 3 x 8 hormagaunts.
With my amazing math skills (or rather, a calculater :p) I can see that you've given your raveners rending claws (very nice!) and devourers (not so nice), now, I've never actually fielded a ravener but with its poor armour save, I wouldnt want it standing around and shooting, so I think the devourer points would be better spent on more gaunts or gargoyles.
If you're looking for more synapse, more fast synapse that is, you might wanna try flying warriors, they're very fragile but they do provide synapse and if you kit them out for CC (rending claws, scything talons and maybe an adrenal gland or two (I prefer the I gland)) and try to keep them in CC, they should be able to make it.
I was trying to make a devourer-army~ capable of huge amounts of rolled dice (to my opponent's horror!) and very fast troops.. It's true that dropping the ravenerdevourers would make them more cost-effective if they fail in shooting from cover and charge a little later - when the enemy is already entangled in cc (if they die too quickly this would be a bad option, and if you use alot of hormies, since they get to cc in two turns ;D )... I'd like to try with AND without, though if I use hormies it might be wasted points...
I'd actually like to keep the stealers, they get pretty darn far with scuttlers and can eat most opponents...
Flying warriors with hormies sounds like a nice idea, it fits the concept (although I'd love some shooty warriors - venom cannon - in the army).
The way I see it I'm at a crossroads; should I up the numbers or have huge, scary things (a dakkafex)? I'd love to hear comments on if it'd even work - if only as a bait to let my other things live a bit longer, seeing as it is very very slow...
1x tyrant ,winged, ES, 2x TW devourers, Ts
1x 6stealers, EC, scuttlers - 184p
1x 8hormagaunts - 80p
(one with 9 and one less gargoyle if 751p is not OK with my opponent)
1x 10-13 Gargoyles
1x 2raveners, RC (no devourers)
1x 3warriors, winged, ST, RC
The hormaswarm would turn it into a pretty big army ~51 wounds, 43 bases.
The "elite" stealerversion would turn it into 39 wounds, 31 bases.
The hormaswarm would probably do better, though I must admit I have stealers in very high regards...
The list gets better and better - or at least legal..? ;D
