Another crazy list from the Beast:
Lord w/ Rez Orb, Veil of Darkness.
Lord w/ Destroyer body, Phase Shifter, Rez Orb.
3 Tomb Spyders
3 Tomb Spyders
3 Tomb Spyders
That's a total of 9 Monstrous Creatures! The destroyer lord rides with one of the scarab swarms, most probobly turbo-boosting into the enemies face. The Immortals veil around causing havoc with the veil lord. All with the 9 tomb spyders backing it up. 30 scarabs aren't the end of it either. The spyders have the potential to create 9 more per turn! I know, it has a slightly low phase out number but I should be able to hide a few with all these fast and heavy units running around in my enemies face.
The only other thing I considered was fitting in the deciever. To do this I would drop the destroyer lord, 3 scarab bases (1 from each squad), and 1 spyder.
Which list do you think is more effective?
How do you think the list(s) will do in general?
I think your list without the Deciever would be more effective, but I'm not sure.
As for your list in general, it's definitly interesting  I don't think it would do too bad - infact, it could probably do pretty good if it's played well. But, the best way to find out would to be actually playing the list
i like the list it would be so fun to play. Non ctan would probably be best but playing is the best way to kno for sure. the only thing i would change because im paranoid about phase out would be drop some tomb spyders (3 or 4) and get another necron squad. When playing try to keep every non necron unit threatening and annoying to the enemy so as to divert fire from your precious phase out units.
Only the weak tell tales of how strong they are...
I tried out a similiar list with proxied Spyders against Marines. it works like a charm. My opponent tried to go for a phase out but once the scarabs struck his frontline, almost every LoS was blocked.
I equipped the D-lord with a Lightning Field and attached him to a swarm, charging an assault squad. the squad ripped into the scarabs and killed 5 bases, but the shocks felled the last 3 marines standing. by turn 3 the first spyders reached the melee and the true fun began.
He forfeited the game in round 5 when 4 spyders broke through and shredded his two dreads and his pred. his infantry was all but gone by then.
I lost: 21 scarab bases, 3 spyders and 6 warriors.
Not in my game you won't!!
If you were going for creating havoc, you might want to include the Nightbringer instead of the Deciever, though it costs a few more points. If your opponent concentrates lots of fire on a ctan then all your other squads can hit hard. Like someone else said, if you're worried about phase out, then just include more warriros.
What do you guys think about subbing the scarabs for 3 squads of 9 wraiths. Similar tactics. What do you think?
my though is that it will work very well, but thats assuming you have a lot of cover, despite their awesome save wraiths tend to diequickly, mostly because of the number of shots aimed at them
if you can get them into CC then you'll tear through even specailised attack squads and with their movement rate you can get close quick
I got lost on the road of life
Beast, I think you are better off with the Scarabs + C'tan.
For the loss of what you had stated, I think the C'tan would more than make up for it in terms of psychological effect and tactical flexability. You're looking to make contact turn 2, and if you go first, that's ONE turn of firing, I dare anyone to consistantly take down a c'tan in one turn.
Not that it doesn't happen, but once you reach their lines, its just a matter of time before the spiders and c'tan reach. I might put in one squad of wraiths in for a scarab swarm to mix it up.
The only issue I might see is with CSM armies with a lot of autocannons. the potential to clear out 2 scarab swarms in one firing phase would concern me. Also, and even more annoying would be armies with many landspeeder tornados and assault cannon toting terminators backed up with a assault cannon toting venerable dread. I think fish of fury tau would dance around it with impunity, all those burst cannons... ugh.
Even worse, those lists with the high degree of mobility could just swoop around and try to phase you out and ignore your bases completely.
I only mention those specific cases because they happen a lot.
Overall I think it would be a fun and challenging list. To play and to play against
W/D/L Eleventy trillion billion/NONE/ NONE - I am STILL rulezor!
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
