Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hello all, first post for along long time. I've been dying to play eldar for the past 6 months but decided to wait until the new codex and figures were released. Now they have been i'd thought I would post a list as i've never played nor played against eldar before so any help you can provide would be good.
Runes of Witnessing
8 Striking Scorpions
Upgrade to Exarch, Biting Blade, Shadow Strike
10 Dire Avengers
Upgrade to Exarch, 2 Shuriken Cats, Bladestorm
2 Squads of:
10 Guardians, Missile Launcher, Warlock with Conceal [140 each]
6 Swooping Hawks
Upgrade to Exarch, Hawks Talon, Intercept
2 War Walkers both armed with 2 Scatter Lasers
Ok the idea is the farseer moves with the Avengers and dooms a unit while guiding the vengers. Anything left of the unit is cleared up by either the 2 missile launchers or the 2 war walkers. The Scorpions infiltrate and keep the enemies attention focused on them while the rest of the army takes out a unit at a time. The Hawks eventually arrive and deal with any vehicles, harass enemy troops etc. This list is mainly chosen because I like the figures it can change wherever.
The forces I mainly fight are Marines, Chaos Marines, Necrons, Demon Orcs and Tau.
Thanks for your help! Matt

yes, reaver. the points costs have been reduced for the war walkers( atleast im 90% sure, because i think it said so in WD 322)and the scatter laser changes in cost( don't know wether good or bad)I think your points might be off here matt, shouldn't they be a bit higher if each warwalker has two scatter lasers? (Or is this a new 'dex list and something changed for them?)
one way to tell if a list is from the new dex or not is the HQ choice. the avatar is npw more expensive, the autarch is new, and the farseer can have doom, which any smart player would choose. im not sure about the Pheonix lords, but still, there is a 1/4 chance they will be picked. also you look at the exarch wargear/ powers. that should in theory tell you if it is the old codex or the new codex.( bare with me, i don't have the new dex, they just described it in WD 322 and the Eldar codex reveiw in the normal eldar section).
Zoe: Doesn't the bible say something specific about killing?
Preacher: Yes, but it's somewhat fuzzy on the subject of kneecaps.
My apologise, yes it is the new codex. I did go backand check the points on the war walkers and they are correct. So what would anyone change about this list? thanks matt
EML(Eldar Missle Launchers) are a good bet if you are a lucky roller. Unfortunetly for players like myself that consistently roll below average, we cant afford to use weapons that only hit half the time. I would suggest trading for starcannons, shuriken cannons or both.
Try freeing some points to max your scorpion squad.
Overall a nice balanced army list, that should be fun ot play.
ok will do thank you very much for your advice. matt
Severi is spot on about the EML in the guardian squads, you need multiple shot weapons in those units, however that does give you a big hole on anti tank
Everything you have been told is a lie!
yes i've been thinking about that there doesn't seem to be any effective non-vehicle mounted anti tank weaponary for guardians as both options at STR 8 are singleshot. Admitedly at this low points level there aren't that many high AV vehicles that are fielded and theoretically the Hawks should take care of them but i'm then very reliant on one unit for my Anti-Tank capabilities. What would you suggest I do? Matt
You could drop a guardian squad max out your scorpions and have another small squad of fire dragons.
Pros: They rip vehicles apart, probably one of the most efficient anti tank units.
Cons: Without any transport and with short range you can bet your opponents will try to intercept them.
You could keep your EML and have your farseer cast guide on it.
Pros: Basically you now have a twin-linked missile launcher.
Cons: You waste your farseers guide one squad, and probably the missile launcher will be the only one in range.
You could brightlances on a warwalker replacing the scatter lasers.
Pros: Problem solved one of the most deadly anti-vehicle weapons in the game.
Cons: Scatter lasers rock, if your going against lots of horde armies try to take these somewhere in your army.
You could drop a guardian squad max out your scorpions and have a support platform.
Pros: Could complement your war walkers very nicely. Vibro cannons can do a lot of damage to vehicles. Underestimated by opponents.
Con: Again you will probably need guide if you are only using one platform.
The eldar are full of many creative ways and units to fulfill all the roles in our army. Here is just a short list with general pros and cons (not very in deepth at all) of some solutions. These are not the only ways or the best ways. Read your codex, find an idea that has the stats to take down a vehicle with moderate luck, and it fits with the fluff of your army. I find it best to look at the unit’s appearance and play style, and then the stats. I couldn't play a “sit and come and get me army I would probably fall asleep. Play test, update your thread, and talk to other 40k players and your list will eventually be refined to one that kicks but and is a lot of fun to play.
ok will do thanks very much for your advice. I'll see how the list plays out as stands at the moment, as i've already bought nearly all of it, and can always swop weapons or buy more units later. You still have given me plenty of options to turn to if the setup doesn't work so thank you for that. Matt
