Ok, I've decided to go for a kroot mercenary army, starting off with a meager 400pts for 40k in 40mins mini-games.
What I was asking myself was: are there any fundamental kroot tactics to bear in mind while creating your army?
- Just love that maki! -
Yea, I'm just starting mercs as well, and I've been hurting for a good tactica for a while now. I would write one (or try), but I have almost no experience witht he army. I know this section is pretty much dead, but would someone enlightened in the way of the Mercenary share the knowledge?

The way of the kroot is a perilous one. You must face constant ridicule from the so-called "real" armies and will always be underestimated. Fear not, for this is their downfall, as the kroot mercenaries are an extremely useful army if done properly.
I've been playing kroot for a couple years (and so few models to show for it ) so I'll offer what help I can.
1) Infiltrate, infiltrate, infiltrate! Everything we have can do it bar Great Knarlocs and Krootox, so make the most of it. Blood of the Stalker is a must for any unit with more than normal movement. This means they can infiltrate even closer and guarantee the first turn charge, a trademark we have perfected. Use infiltrate to get advantageous positioning, it is crucial to success. To ensure the plan works, always invest in the kroothawk totem, the re-roll for first turn is always handy.
2) Prepare for tanks. Face it, we cannot deal with tanks reliably. Our longest ranged gun is only S7 and on a BS3 critter. So, we must rely on meltaguns (HQs only), melta bombs, and eviscerators. Using the first turn charge, we can reduce most tanks to smoking wrecks easily, and any left are close enough to rip apart in a turn or two.
3) Numbers. The individual kroot will fall to even modest fire, but they are inexpensive and work in numbers. Tons of attacks in combat, and plenty of kroot rifle shots (one worse AP bolter, can't complain!). Take lots of Kroot and you won't be disappointed.
4) Signature Evolutionary Adaptations. Pick one to fit your opponent and the mission. Fast Reflexes is generally good against I4 to go simultaneously or I3 to go first, also cheap. Sixth Sense works wonders to survive templates. Chameleonic helps on terrain-light board. Ork Hybrid helps to keep your kroot living longer. Bold helps against Ld-reducing armies (not many). Or, don't take any and get more kroot.
Hope this helps for now, why not post up some lists and I can give further advice.
