This is my first list, and no way final. Its designed to face a space marine guy at my GW store. He takes a chaplain either in terminator armour backed up by 4 terminators and another 5 terms or in with an assault pack and squad. He also used a predator with 4 las cannons. 2 squads of 10 marines and 1 heavy weapons marines squad. Sometimes he takes 5 bikes and an attack bike.
Please will you give me advice on the above army. I think ive taken enough to deal with the vehicles first, then the terms and clean up marines with the rest. Also could you please tell me how this list would do generally. Thanks.
autarch, mandiblasters, scorp chainsword, Avenger shurikan catapult
Wraithgaurd x5 warlock, spiritseer, conceal, singing spear.
fire dragons x5 exarch, firepike,
harlequin x4, shadowseer, troupe master, fusion pistolx2, harlequins kiss x6
Dire avengers x9 exarch, powerweapon, shimmershield, bladestorm.
Pathfinders x 6
Jetbikes x 3,
Dark reaper x4, exarch, missile launcher, crack shot
Warwalker x2, spirit stones, bright lance , starcannon, scatterlaser x2
Wraithlord, bright lance, wraithsword
Ok first off the easy stuff.
If you're going to take jetbikes get the shurican cannon. It's pretty easy to model, don't buy the fancy bike unless you really want to.
Don't use that wide of a mix of stuff on the warwalkers. If you're fireing at something that needs the brightlance the other weapons aren't doing anything. Actually I personally don't care for the warwalkers much except against hoard or non-shooty armies. Though it's possible you have enough threats to keep the heavy fire off of them. I'm just saying be cautious. But regarless figure out what they want to do and trick them out for it.
I'm also not a fan of the wraithguards. I'm guessing you took them for the warlock for thewraithlord. Instead I would consider ditching the autarch for a farseer.
It looks like you've just taken the autarch to fill up an HQ spot. With a chainsword and catapault he isn't going to threaten mariens. Whereas a farseer can actually be usefull by throwing out dooms. (remeber the farseer doesn't even need to see the targets).
The fire dragons aren't going to be able to get where they need to on foot. They'll get cut down. You need a transport for them.
I would advise ditching the walkers for a falcon with holofields and a spirit stone and maybe star engines to deliver the dragons.
Then ditch the wraithguard and use the points for the falcon, and upgrade to a farseer (or at least a usefull autarch or something, you could put a warlock in the jetbikes if need be).
You'll also have some points left to get more harlequins.
Also while I think pathfinders have their place. You're going to want some cheap troops out in front to pull away chargers and screen harlies. So maybe instead of pathfinders get two squads of six plain DA's. They'll do more damage than you'd expect if the MEQs are doomed.
you seem to be getting some solid advice from sunnyside, but here's some advice of what I've seen work
that concludes my critique of your list, I hope you find it helpful. Good luck
The list is OK generally, but against Space Marines then you really need to get rid of the warwalkers, they will immediatly get taken out by the predator. Get a shuriken cannon in your jetbike squad, although they might seem expensive they almost always prove to be worth it. Get a waveserpent for your fire dragons for god sake! On the way over the board if your opponent has half a brain he will take them out very quickly! Dire avengers are OK but I generally prefer a diresword and shuriken pistol myself. This means he can fire with his higher balistic skill, although a power weapon may be more effective aginst marines if you plan to get them into close combat.
Against marines the best unit other than HQ has to be Howling Banshees. They each have a power weapon and the Exarch either has an extra attack or an extra strength. They are practically made to destroy marines and mine do well against Space Marine Terminators too!
Give the autarch something else instead of a shuriken catapult. A fusion gun or missile launcher perhaps? Also if you are kitting him out for going against Space Marines then equip him with a power weapon.
Sunnyside's point about getting rid of the warwalkers and replacing it with a falcon is a good one. That way "You kill two birds with one stone" plus you get some heavy firepower.
The thing with wraithguard is the point cost. They cost 35pts each I think (mental not to self to check that) and then they really aren't that good in the end. They are very specialist and if you ever go against another army such as imperial guard for example then you will find they get completely swarmed and all the tanks will target them because they are big?
Yeah well anyway good first try and good luck.
Happy New Year.
If someone helps you with your query then you really should rep them, especially if that person is me, :D because that is obviously going to be really useful. :o
