Welcome to Librarium Online!
I used to play Nids in the 2nd and 3rd edition. But haven't yet with the new one. I am tired of getting smeared with Witch Hunters vs. the other blue meat. My Tau nemesis is pretty freaked out about the great devourer as it is so I figured I would pull out the ol’ bugs and show him what for.
I wanted to make an army with a lot of psychological effect in it, but still useful enough to win. He is not expecting something as shooty. I am not sure if I should go more stealers and less gaunts. And I can't help but feel I am a bit to generous with the biomorphs. We tend to be pretty heavy on the terrain so I picked flesh hooks a lot. It's kind of a Frankenstein army. 4 generations of minis in it.
I may try it out on the wife's Ultramarines too.

Well, I started to comment on each section of your list, but then I realized all I was saying was "Nice." "This is good." "Good thinking..."
I think you've made a sweet anti-Tau list. Lots of medium-to-big guns, gargoyles are practically purely anti-skimmer IMO, and Lictors willl shine here as well (although 3 might be a bit much for 1500). I don't think you've used too many gaunts, either - at least as termagants they have a slightly multi-purpose role, even if they aren't very strong.
Aha! I found something to critique: I think you should definitely give your genestealers extended carapace. Without it, they will drown in a sea of AP5. Maybe you could lose a few termagants, or even drop a lictor to find the points. Splitting them up into 2 smaller broods might help, too.
All in all though, this is a nice list. I wish I could be there to see his face when his blueskins gets outgunned by a bunch of "mindless aliens" !

Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
Not a serious critique (sorry), but just seeing as you said that you want an army with "lots of psychological effect"... have you considered Psychic Scream on your Tyrant and Zoanthropes? No doubt it wouldn't really go with the list, it's just that that's what "psychological effect" immediately suggests to me!
Thanks for the input!
Mr. Lincoln- I dropped 2 genestealers and changed the rending claws on the warriors to scything talons in order to add extended carapace to the rest of the stealers. I am still considering dropping a Lictor. They realy agitate the the blue guys though...
Hammerite- I played around with the points to add psychic scream to the Zoanthrpoes and the Tyrant. I am a bit reluctant to add more points to those guys though. They are pretty spendy as it is. I did play with the idea of changeing the Gun Tyrant for a Winged Dakka Tyrant. Then the Psychic Scream would come in more handy. I think I want to keep the ranged nids further back. The psychological effect is mostly for the player.
So what would you think about changing the elite DakkaFex to heavy GunFex and changeing the GunTyrant and gaurd to a UberDakkaFlyrant?
It seems to me that 10 gaunts/stealers in a squad would be about the minimum I would want. Any less and they might not make it to the genetic material shooting at them.
