    2500 Wraith Army

    Hey all.

After having read the lovely new Eldar Codex, I have decided to divert from the Greater Good for a brief period of time and collect a small (albeit expensive) 2500 point Eldar Army. I have an extensive fluff setting for the Craftworld Zen-Raiba, and now I need to create their army! Now, I've never played a game WITH Eldar before (although I have played against them alot), so I'm looking for some constructive ideas on how to improve my army without ruining the overall feel of it - a powerful wraith army with some cool minis in it! This IS NOT a tournament list.

    HQ:
    • Farseer Rakhandra: 135 points
Rune Armour, Ghosthelm, Runes of Witnessing, Spirit Stones
      Mind War, Eldritch Storm
    • Warlock Retinue (Attached to Farseer): 190 points
      5 Warlocks
      1 w/Enhance
      4 w/Destructor

    TROOPS:

    • Wraithguard: 381 points
      10 Wraithguard
      1 Warlock: Spiritseer, Destructor
    • Wraithguard: 381 points
      10 Wraithguard
      1 Warlock: Spiritseer, Destructor

    ELITES:

    • Harlequins: 250 points
      9 Harlequins
      1 Shadowseer
      10 Harlequin Kisses
    • Striking Scorpions w/Wave Serpent: 342 points
      9 Striking Scorpions
1 Striking Scorpion Exarch w/Scorpion's Claw, Stalker
Wave Serpent w/Vectored Engines, Star Engines, Spirit Stones, Scatter Laser
    • Howling Banshees w/Wave Serpent: 342 Points
      9 Howling Banshees
1 Howling Banshee Exarch w/Mirrorswords, War Shout, Acrobatic
Wave Serpent w/Vectored Engines, Star Engines, Spirit Stones, Scatter Laser

    HEAVY SUPPORT:
    • Falcon: 210 points (Farseer and retinue will be mounted in this)
Holofields, Vectored Engines, Spirit Stones, Star Engines
      Shuriken Cannon, Shuriken Cannon

The basic start with this army will be to build a nasty fire base at the center of the table, placing my wraithguard squads in front of my two wraithlords and the harlequin squad. From here, they'll basically advance forward and destroy everything ahead of them in a massive, terrible advance. The wraithguard will do most of the shooting, while the wraithlords are there to pop armour and add some extra shots into the fray. The harlequins will be used to charge any assaulty units that decide to come too close to my precious wraithguard. Hopefully, this should allow me to keep my death train moving. The Wave Serpents will be deployed together (to one side) or on either side of the force (depending on the enemy's deployment) and will zip up the flanks to drop the aspect warriors, who could then assault any tasty units that might fall out of the reach of my wraithguard. They could also act as another protective group, attacking anything that wants to assault my wraithguard should my harlequins be preoccupied. Finally, the Farseer and her retinue will be mounted in the Falcon and used to strike deep into the enemy forces to destroy any expensive squads or HQ choices. From here, the Falcon can either rescue the Farseer in a time of need or rush off to shoot something else.

I think it's a fairly different and exciting list, but I worry that it lacks the sheer number of firepower and wounding ability to eviscerate another 2500 point army. Although this army is more about fluff (and cool minis) than competition, it would still be a bummer to lose every game with it.

    So, any suggestions?

Only in Death does Duty end.

    TAU EMPIRE: 2000pts
    WOOD ELVES: 1000pts (and growing)
    ELDAR: 400pts

Well, I think that you have a good base but there are a few things hat I would change. So lets get this started!

    HQ:
    • Farseer Rakhandra: 135 points
Rune Armour, Ghosthelm, Runes of Witnessing, Spirit Stones
      Mind War, Eldritch Storm
    • Warlock Retinue (Attached to Farseer): 190 points
      5 Warlocks
      1 w/Enhance
      4 w/Destructor
I like this unit except for a few things. The Farseer should have doom and eldrich storm, and should have a singing spear. I also dont usually use runes of witnessing personally but for the points its not pointless. I would like to see two or three singing spears in with the warlocks because of the anti-tank capablity and just the shere coolness of the singing spear itself.

    TROOPS:
    • Wraithguard: 381 points
      10 Wraithguard
      1 Warlock: Spiritseer, Destructor
    • Wraithguard: 381 points
      10 Wraithguard
      1 Warlock: Spiritseer, Destructor
I do not have a codex in front of me but I am pretty sure that 10 wraithguard/spiritseer/destructor are 391 points not 381. Other than that these are great.

    ELITES:
    • Harlequins: 250 points
      9 Harlequins
      1 Shadowseer
      10 Harlequin Kisses
    • Striking Scorpions w/Wave Serpent: 342 points
      9 Striking Scorpions
1 Striking Scorpion Exarch w/Scorpion's Claw, Stalker
Wave Serpent w/Vectored Engines, Star Engines, Spirit Stones, Scatter Laser
    • Howling Banshees w/Wave Serpent: 342 Points
      9 Howling Banshees
1 Howling Banshee Exarch w/Mirrorswords, War Shout, Acrobatic
Wave Serpent w/Vectored Engines, Star Engines, Spirit Stones, Scatter Laser
First off I think the harlies are on foot so they will be a few turns from combat so that worries me. It also would temp me to drop them altogether. I like the scorpions and the banshees but would like to see shuriken cannons as well on the serpents. This gives you a few extra shot at a unit they are charging to soften them up more

    HEAVY SUPPORT:
    • Falcon: 210 points (Farseer and retinue will be mounted in this)
Holofields, Vectored Engines, Spirit Stones, Star Engines
      Shuriken Cannon, Shuriken Cannon
You mentioned Wraithlords but did not list them anywhere. I do like that the Farseer/Warlocks are in this though. I like the scatter laser instead of shuriken cannon though.

Good concept, just think it needs some minor tweeks thats all.

The problem with "true" wraith armies is that they really need 20 wraithguard for the troops choices. With 800 points sunk in 20 models before you have even chosen a HQ really strains your availible points for other units.

I think Wraithguard are best employed in wave serpents where the tanks can be used to drop them in range early on in the game and protect them from enemy assault troops. A walking mass of wraithunits sounds like a solid idea but falls victim to its points cost, for all the points you sunk into your wraithwall your opponant has availible to his own army. This means a large wraithforce is hard to field and will always be outnumbered.

Based on your list I would field this as my basic army with other units standing in for choices to make the points up to 2000.

    HQ:
    • Farseer Rakhandra: 140 points
Rune Armour, Ghosthelm, Runes of Witnessing, Spirit Stones
      Doom, Fortune
    • Warlock Retinue (Attached to Farseer): 151 points
      5 Warlocks
      2 w/Singing Spears
      1 w/Enhance
      4 w/Embolden

    TROOPS:

    • Wraithguard: 396 points
      10 Wraithguard
      1 Warlock: Spiritseer, Conceal
    • Wraithguard: 396 points
      10 Wraithguard
      1 Warlock: Spiritseer, Conceal

    ELITES:

    • Harlequins: 162 points
      6 Harlequins
      1 Shadowseer
      6 Harlequin Kisses

    HEAVY SUPPORT:
    • Falcon: 205 points (Farseer and retinue will be mounted in this)
      Holofields, Vectored Engines, Spirit Stones
      Twin-linked Shuriken Catapults, Starcannon
    • Wraithlord: 130 points
      2 Scatter Lasers
    • Wraithlord: 130 points
      2 Scatter Lasers

    TOTAL: 1710

Although personaly I think this would be a more competative army as the added mobility offsets one of the main weaknesses of wraithguard. It is also much cheaper in points (and pounds) and allows you to field a wraith army at the standard 1500 point level.

    HQ:
    • Farseer Rakhandra: 120 points
      Rune Armour, Ghosthelm, Spirit Stones
      Doom, Eldritch Storm

    TROOPS:
    • Guardians: 183 points
      16 Guardians: Scatter Laser
      1 Warlock: Conceal
    • Guardians: 183 points
      16 Guardians: Scatter Laser
      1 Warlock: Conceal

    ELITES:
    • Wraithguard: 224 points
      5 Wraithguard
1 Warlock: Spiritseer, Conceal, Singing Spear
    • Wave Serpent: 130 points
      Vectored Engines, Spirit Stones
Twin-linked Shuriken Catapults, Twin-linked Shuriken Cannons
    • Wraithguard: 224 points
      5 Wraithguard
1 Warlock: Spiritseer, Conceal, Singing Spear
    • Wave Serpent: 130 points
      Vectored Engines, Spirit Stones
Twin-linked Shuriken Catapults, Twin-linked Shuriken Cannons

    HEAVY SUPPORT:
    • Wraithlord: 140 points
      2 Eldar Missile Launchers
    • Wraithlord: 140 points
      2 Eldar Missile Launchers

    TOTAL: 1474

Feel free to ignore anything you dont like the taste of. Hopfully this will give you some more ideas and help you build the army you want.
