Hello all, just have a quick question for you. How effective are wraithguard as elites and how effective are they as troops? Is it possible to have an effective army with just taking wraithguards as a troops choice? I love the concept of these models and their looks but I would love to understand their effectiveness before spending more money to use them as 2 troop choices.
Thank you very much for your replys.
Wraithguard are fine. They have 1 real problem though. Fire Dragons are better, cheaper in $ too.
I versed a wraithguard army once (he used 26 of them in 1500) and snapped it. It is incredibly slow so my mech eldar just danced around it. You really need 2 wraithlords and 3 war walkers as well as some warp spiders or something. If you can have these other elements capable of reaching/catching the enemy then the wraithguard can make a fine core.

If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
You really want to use 20 Wraithguards as your Troops choice?
Hmm that'll slow your army down, and the problem is, once in CC the Wraithguards cannot shoot any more, and perhaps get grinded down by power fists...
I've been pondering this myself, as my eldar army comes to shape. I used to play eldar long ago and bought a bunch of wraithguard when they were much cheaper(thankfully the models are exactly the same. )
WG need mobility, and even more, WG armies need more mobility. That's taking them in waveserpents, which is mucho points, about the same as putting them as 10 strong squads.
This is almost impossible to do at lower points levels(1500 and less)
which means you will have to figure out where you can give your guys fast support, or how to balance the FOC out to take them.
I've been itching to test them out using a "serpent of fury" idea I've had. keeping the WS in between the target and them to buffer incoming assaults.
Some rangers to add numbers and disruption, and warwalkers to deal with mass enemies.
consider you will be outnumbered at least 2 to 1 against marines, and even more against other armies. This is a big problem.
think about how your playsstyle is and consider what you need to do to help your wraithguard win.
