There is nothing in the codex that I saw that shows that farseers can target two different units in 1 turn with their powers, so this got me thinking why people would take skills like guide and doom together. Guide and Doom used together would be very brutal, but in the main 40k rulebook it says psychic powers work just like shooting, and only one unit can be targeted. Only being able to target one unit will make one of the powers unusable every turn.
Did I misread something there? Are our great farseers allowed to target multiple units if the have spirit stones? And if they are would they still be able to throw their singing spear as long as they dont use any psychic abilities that replace shooting a weapon? Who would they be able to throw their spear at?
A bunch of questions I know, but I ran across this delima the other night and couldn't seem to find the answer. Your help is greatly appreciated!
It says when the powers replace shooting, i.e. mind war and eldritch storm are used in shooting phase instead of firing a weapon. Others are used at beginning of turn, before shooting phase, and so do not follow the rules of shooting.
Codex overrules the BGB. Our codex says our powers don't count as shooting unless otherwise specified. This means there is no such restrictions on fortune, doom and guide.
It is some debate whether mind war and eldritch storm can shoot at different targets (and how the hell this works with Eldrad Ulthran) and I honestly don't know the answer. Generally people let you pick different targets though, and with mind war you are usually allowed to charge something other than what you fried.
To add to the confusion eldritch storm doesn't need LoS, it only says shooting phase .
People take singing spears not simply to give the farseer something better than a pistol but to toss at tanks as they fly by on the jetbike. It's nice to casually blow up leman russ and the like.

If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
As Link said - Codex overrules BGB.
And yes, Guide and Doom together are nasty for the target. The best part is that Doom lasts the entire turn - not just the shooting phase. And my favourite part of it is if you target a squad that an IC has joined then the IC is doomed too - even if the entire squad gets wiped out by shooting, he is still doomed for the assault phase - so charge him. With Banshees preferrably.
I figured that we had a special rule that overruled the main rule book, and thanks to you all, I know for sure now! Thanks for all your help
So i can use guide or doom then throw my spear in the shooting phase!?

Slightly off-topic... but its similar and so don't want to make a new post.
I got the new dex today, and I'm looking at Eldar, Orks or Chaos as my 2008 army.
Anywho, I saw while reading the farseer/warlock powers, that it said that since warlock powers were permanent, you didn't roll for tests? Is that the case, or have I mis-read it?
*nods* I thought it might be the case, but just wanted to check to make sure
Destructor does, and I think that it is our only power that is used instead of shooting, but I could be wrong... and I am, Eldrich storm and Mind War also replace shooting done by the farseer. Basically, anything directly offensive in nature.
