Alright, Since the new codex, I've been trying to find the best place in my army to mount starcannons. In most places, they seem to have been usurped by scatterlasers. My army feels very empty without the abundance of starcannons it once had, so i was just wondering where you guys put them.
The Falcon is the best place to put them. Even then the scatter laser is generally better. I had a starcannon on my falcon for a while because I simply didn't have the reliable firepower to disrupt a basic tactical squad so my falcon becamse a gunboat. It worked quite well but I've switched back to the scatter laser.
Basically it complements the pulse laser and gives you the punch to shoot up an enemy threat. I also tried it out on guardians for a while and it worked ok but again, the scatter laser is better.
War Walkers like scatter lasers
Vypers like shurikannons
Falcons like starcannons
Wraithlords like bright lances
Wave Serpents like missiles
Although that is a very broad summary of course.

If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
I find that the wraithlord is a fairly good place to put a starcannon as well. Now that I have been corrected and I happily know that it can walk forward while shooting heavy weapons, its going great again and its higher ballistic skill makes it hit more often...
But I call to God, and the LORD saves me.
Starcannons have always been on falcons for me. However, I have seen wraithlords with starcannons used to some effect. But since falcons already have some AP 2 weaponry on it free, I just like to complement it, and send it terminator hunting. True, fire prisms are better at this, but I like falcons so much more.
I really like putting them on wave serpents. As they are twin-linked, you often hit twice. Complimented by a shuriken cannon they do some damage.
I also have them on one of my war walkers, with two other carrying scatter lasers. The squad can then target infantry or transports and are deadly at both.
As for falcons, I find i shoot vehicles most of the time with my falcon(mostly transports) and then a scatter laser is better for me.
Currently painting The Pink Slaughter (Slaanesh CSM), Waaaaagh Bigtoof (Orks) for 40k/OnePage40k and UCM Ferrum 2nd for Dropzone Commander.
Falcon. I put ML's on wave serpents so they can clear a space and have extended range, and on a WL I put a brightlance as can opener so it can go in with 2 flamers and a wraithsword and ROCK AND ROLL IN CC!
