Hello all, I am thinking of making a 1850pt competative Dark Eldar force. I was thinking a force with all raiders for my units but I really dont know what the best styles and units are for a Turnament army. Thank you for any help
I have no idea what to put here so ill put this...
lets see raider squads are one of my personal favorites and in that size a game you could use 2 sniper squads without raiders to tank hunt and use four 8 man raider squads with a blaster and a splinter canon. in 1500+ point size battles make sure to fill up your troop choices as warriors are one of the best things we have.
As well as troops, wytches are an excellent buy, at least one squad for CC suppression, and maybe a second for good measure. If you're going to do a raider based force, then ravagers are also an excellent idea, one or two there too. Assuming you have a plan for a decent HQ unit, then you have about 800 points to spend on troops.
Or, you could do a webway portal variation. It's all up to you. In that case, make a couple of footslogging squads, and add the portal. It will protect your raiders in case you don't get first turn.
One of the drawbacks to an all Raider list at high point games is finding places to hide them all during deployment. I find that I can ususally hide 4 vehicles reasonably well with a full 25% terrain with two more being Obscured.
A web way portal army plays very differently from a Raider Rush army and I'm not convinced it can be a competative list. Around here you need three Victorious Slaughters to challenge for best general, any army that puts 1/3 or more in reserve just isn't going to be able to win by that large a margin. Also if your army doesn't really get going until turn 4/5 you may suffer in the games that run long where you don't get to play turn 6 (the other player is new and takes a long time to decide anything, the other army is a horde army with tefious amounts of models to move, the other player is a vet and knowns you won't really hurt him till late in the game and so he plays slowly).
