This thread is inspired by our beloved Rikimaru's latest reply to the "Best of Tau" thread. Rikimaru brought up an excellent point, there is no best unit for each slot in the force organization force. Everyone has their own unit to deal with each obstacle presented by each type of enemy, and any all-comers list will include all of these units. So, I propose to you, a question:
What do YOU use for each enemy? Take into consideration the following units (using them as one "type" of threat)
Land Raider/AV 14
T7 Sv2+ Carnifex
Transports (AV 12-11-10, 12-10-10, 11-11-10)
Indirect fire (Whirlwinds, Basilisks, etc)
MEQs (Space Marines, Necrons etc)
T3 Swarms/ Swarm assaulters (hormagaunts)
fast units (bikers, fast skimmers, and maybe even jump troops)
Special rules such as deepstrike or infiltrate
You should all have ways of dealing with a full army of any of these, there are lists such as the Dark Angels Terminator/LR force (or did they eliminate that?), the Tyranid Godzilla list, the Tyranid Swarm, Dark Angels Ravenwing forces, the deadly drop pod assault, and the IG Mechanized Company, they do exist. Don't make this so much of a "this is how I would deal with this army" thread, make it a "this is how I am prepared to deal with this kind of threat" thread.
My gaming group's new motto: That army you're using is overpowered because it hurts my guys, codex is broken and needs a rewrite.
Home-Brewed Codex: Farsight Enclaves
Turn 1/2 Railgun from Hammerheads guided by Skyray or pathfinder markelight (if in range).
Turn 3 Onwards I will use either the railgun or Helios commander, this is not as difficult as it sounds with a drone squad for protection.
I also use thr HH railguns and Skrays seekers (usually called by pathfinders)
[QUOTE=lLonginus;1005757]T3 Swarms/ Swarm assaulters (hormagaunts)
FW pulse rifle fire in FOF (ML guided if possible), and submunnitions and stealths if available and cover is close
I also try to use as much cover as is available to make DS dangerous.
I know that no matter what happens I will always have an answer to a unit and the opponent will find it hard to prevent me doing damage.
