Welcome to Librarium Online!
hey guys... i have been playing a 40K khorne army since 3rd edition and with new codex this month it has crossed my mind that i should try a new challenge... now i have had a few mates from my gaming club say i should try nids cause the suit my play style very nicley... so i thought ok but here is my dilema... I dont know where to start, what kinds of things work well and dont work well, wether to go MC based or mixed, shootie or CC.
if i could get some quick help either by a post in this thread or a PM on what would be my best way to start out in the nid hive i would be greatly appretiated.

I played alot of 3rd Ed Khorne too- I guarentee you'll love Nids. Specifically a hybrid list, with a few TyranidMonstrous Creatures (TMCs) and a smattering of little meat-gribblies. You'll want ot focus on CC, but you'll also need a bit of shooting for deterrant and ranged anti-armour/skimmer purposes.
I like to use some naked Genestealers, few cheap Carnifexes, Hive Tyrant, half decent amount of Spinefisted Gaunts, and then maybe some cheap Warriors and Zoanthropes, etc.
...went and found a few links to help set you up

There are loads of options with Tyranids. I would say as a few basis tips that Hive tyrants should always be given extended carapace, if they have wings give them warpfield. They need these things so that they will have a good enough armour save because Hive tyrants are fire magnets.
Tyranid warriors work well with extended carapace too. Deathspitters and rending claws is a good combo for Tyranid warriors. They become shooty and very nasty in assault too, often keeping them out of assault and simply shooting isn't an option. Give Tyranid warriors toxin sacs too. i would say any Tyranid that is going to fore a gun should be given enhanced senses if possible.
Genestealers work very well with extended carapace and scuttlers. These two make them move much quicker at the start of the game and they also become much harder to kill.
Raveners are good too, they are very fast and best given rending claws and scything talons, I wouldn't bother with a gun. The nice thing about Raveners is they can be bought as individuals or in larger broods. This gives them lots of flexibility in what you do with them, rush a big brood up and shred everything or have a lone Ravener sneak about grabbing things etc.
I would also suggest Zoanthropes. Zoanthropes are one of the best units anyone can get. Give them warpblast and synapse creature and spread them out to control your broods. Or give them warpblast and psychic scream and get them to bunch up and impose huge penalties on your opponents LD.
Sniperfex's (venom cannon and barbed strangler) are amazing tank or troops killers, but experiment. Buy some magnets so you can swap your weapons about!
Go for a mixed army first, then you can decide if you would rather buy more shooty or cc critters.
Dont spend too much on biomorphs. Its tempting but restrain yourself! Leave gaunts naked, and never go higher than about 180points for a fex.
Finally, buy a battleforce as your first purchase. Everything in it is useable and you have a legal army from the word go!
