So i am new to Eldar, and i am wanting to start with a combat patrol army, 400 points right? So i really like the Wraithlord... love it.
So i was thinking about a wraith themed patrol. Like a wraithlord, and some wraith guard (maybe 5 or so) with warlocks. Now, how do the warlocks and the wraiths work? I need them within 6 inches or i get the Wraithsight problem right? But can't I only field a minimum squad of 3?
Also, heres another idea. Making a combat patrol of completly a single aspect, lead by its Phoenix lord. It seems like the dark reapers and fire dragons would be pointless cause CC would stink, so maybe dire avengers, howling banshes, scorpions, spears or something. Shining spears seem a little more fluffy, being fast and so more likely to be scouting ahead. Maybe accomponied by jetbikes or vypers?
erm, you need a troop, and if you wanted a wraith themed combat patrol, then you could probably only get a full wraithguard squad and a warlock(i reccomend enhance on the warlock)
i reccomend going in blocks of 500, so 0-500-100-1500-2000 and so on and so forth.
Zoe: Doesn't the bible say something specific about killing?
Preacher: Yes, but it's somewhat fuzzy on the subject of kneecaps.
aren't combat patrols 400pt battles, and do you need troops in a combat patrol i know you don't need HQ
and the wraith cannon has X for strength what does that mean????
X for strength means it always wounds on a fixed number regardless of its opponents toughness, check their entry in the codex for more.
Unfortunately in combat patrol you aren't allowed a wraithlord, it says no model may have more than 2 wounds in the combat patrol section.
Eldar combat patrols tend to be based around our AV10 vehicles (war walkers or vypers) and some nice shooty units like guardians, avengers and/or reapers.
Spiritseer /w singing spear, conceal
That 1 squad fulfills all the requirements and is 399 points. It can be a patrol (albeit a weird one) if you want a wraith army. Then you can add a wraithlord, a farseer and something else (more troops) to go to 750 points. Some pathfinders for range support or guardians to escort your wraithguard.

If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
I know you said you new to Eldar, if that is the case I would suggest starting off with a Dire Avenger combat patrol (I think you mentioned that one) one, they are troops which you will use in bigger battles as well. Also, they are a little easier on the pocket book than wraithguard. But seriously if you want a "wraith army" build it, a fun army is always the best army.

Eldar: 25,000 pts
LL pretty much gave you an exhaustive response, one thing I would add, Wraith based armies are not good in combat patrol, they are expensive (points wise models) which makes them few in numbers) and they lack range and speed, as a result you will tend to start taking damage way before your opponent does and given that points cost you will rapidly run out of minis.
Off the top of my head, aspect based combat patrol from my son (second in last combat patrol tourney):
5 scoprions, exarch, fist, stalker, shadow strike
7? (not sure, just fill up points left) dire avengers, exarch, 2x catapults, bladestorm
my own version on last outing:
9 bikes (3 cannons) - 228 points
Walker (2 scatter lasers) - 60 points
Walker (2 scatter lasers) - 60 points
Walker (2 suriken cannon) - 40 points
total 388 points, throws out 31 str 6 shots per turn and eats other armies
I would strongly recomend reading the BGB, this and the scorpion question are covered in there
Everything you have been told is a lie!
