Welcome to Librarium Online!
I made the mistake of going into a Games Workshop yesterday. This is something I try and avoid but I went yesterday just to have alook at these new templates for Apocolypse.
One of the lads in there asked me if I played (its a really small store and it was a weekday so it was empty) and was surprised when I told him that I have about 3000 points of Tau, Ultramarines and IG. he said "so you'll be putting them all together to play Apocolypse then?"
"maybe my guard and Marines......" i replyed puzzled as to why i would yuse imperial and Tau together
"oh well I've jsut bought a baneblade for my Tau army" he says...spittle issuing from the side of his teenage mouth and running down his bumfluff beard.
"yeah? wow." i say puzzled
"yeah you can use anything with anything in Apocolypse its brilliant. plus the baneblade has 9 weaposn so it would take 9 weapon destroyed results before it would take damage. and even when its immoblized it can move half its movement. I reckon 1 of them could beat your 3000 point Tau" rolls dice to show me what it would do against my tau
"really" i reply "so i win first turn and shoot you with my three railheads. all your structure ponits go. then I shoot you with my 9 broadsides....we don't use FOC charts do we..... yeah i might get 9 weapon destroyed results. what you going to do tank shock me?"
"okay so then this Tau Baneblade of yours assuming I don't roll 9 waepon destroyed results...I knwo thats hard to get yoru head roound but bear with me.....what if i get a vehicle destroyed? it must have a pretty big explosion?"
"3d6........strength 9...ap 2"
"okay so if you had any troops they woudl prettymuch be all dead too yeah?"
"so i would win wouldn't I?"
"yeah.....but 3 railheads and 9 broadside is more than the baneblade...."
"yeah see you mate."
same dude told my mate he could use a Baneblade in his Tyranid army if he modeled a tryanid using mind control on the driver onto the tank.
god i hate going into games workshop.

I've a funny feeling that certain alliances aren't allowed, but not having read the Apoc Book yet I can't say for sure. Can you imagine the scene from a model's point of view?
"'Ere, Sarge .........why's that guy over there fighting with us? The big one with the funny red armour and that big axe thing?"
"Soldier, it's not for you to ask questions about the decision of your Commanding Officer to invite Kharn the Betrayer along for a battle. Friendly gesture and all that..."
"Oh. Right Sarge, sorry Sarge."
"Tau Commandment #226: Participants who use Velocity Trackers in the Tau Clay Pigeon Tournament will be disqualified"
hehehehe, yeah, wouldn't communicating to the tyranids that you're not lunch but an ally... i don't know... *impossible* ?
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

they don't understand the concept of fluff or a well balanced game for fun. they see that a baneblade is 600 points and therefore is an equivilant to 600 point marine force that has been design using the FOC chart.
Anyone who takes tanks IMO is going to be losing more often than it would otherwise warrant IMHO. With Apocalypse, We will be able to have Rail Guns out the wazoo(and it'll be fluffy too!), as well as Deep-Striking Fusion death. With vehicles which have a very big blast(that blast averages 10-11"), you may lose a 50 point suit, but he'll lose a lot more than that in his units.
I don't so much hate the people who play competative, but the ones who buy something just to have it in their army(...an Imperial superheavy in a Tau(meaning fluff=mobile) force...)
Though I would like to have a Eldar/Tau force. But it'll remain strictly on Vassal.
XV-8's, 88's, Vespid, Jetbikes, and Hawks? What more could you ask for!

I hope we get some better stuff for Apoc. That Devilfish rapid-redeployment thing doesn't suit me at all. Why bring Fire Warriors close to an enemy, when we can out range them and stay safe(r)

Blood for the Blood God! Beer for the Bronze Keg!
I see no problem running any two different armies together. Isn't that what Apocalypse is for (that, and no FoC)?
I remember reading in the Apoc book, in the Alliances section, something like 'these armies would not normally work together, so make up a good story when you use them' or the like. I remember any army can be used together, you just have to make up a reason why (it doesn't even have to be a good one).
